NS4 Send the channel change correctly
Hi,
I want to control a Roland Integra 7 with my Nord. To do this, I need the programme changes to be correct. This means that if I switch from G11 to G12 on the Nord, the Integra 7 should switch from Studio Set 1 to Studio Set 2 (this is important for live use).
Roland writes: To ensure that the INTEGRA‑7 reliably loads the correct Studio Set when your Nord Stage 4 changes programmes, the change must be made using Bank Select and Programme Change commands. A simple Programme Change command is not sufficient here.
The INTEGRA‑7 uses the following MIDI commands to change studio sets:
MSB = 85
LSB = 0
Program Change = 1 to 64
I tried using External Mode (which you can enable in the Synth section). There, I can set CCVAL1, CCVAL2 and Programme (all from 0–127 – I assume these are MSB, LSB and Programme Change) – but it doesn’t work. Also, would I lose a synth layer if I did that?
How and, above all, where do I set these parameters on the Nord so that the transfer works smoothly?
Thanks for the helpful tips
Johannes

The settings you need are in the EXTERN menu, where you can set MSB,LSB and program for each layer. Be sure to set SEND ON LOAD to ON for whichever layer of EXT A,B or C you use.
The EXT MIDI program change settings are transmitted always (if set to ON) even if you have a synth layer selected. But of course you will lose the synth if you wish to have the Nord keyboard control the Roland, and set to EXTERN.

Re: NS4 Send the channel change correctly
Oh yes, thanks, I found the MSB, LSB and Programme Change in the device’s own menu. Set to 85 - 0... and when I then go to Programme Change 3, for example, the Integra switches perfectly to Studio Set 2 (always -1),
I’m also saving it; I can see that works separately for each programme, but when I then switch programmes on the Nord, nothing happens again. So far, only a ‘manual’ transfer works... hmm, that’s not enough for live use. Do you have any other ideas?

Hmm, do I have to 'sacrifice' a synth layer now? I just want to 'mix in' the Integra with the Nord 4 – without any special effects. And for live performances, I need a synchronised programme change with the Integra, which isn't working yet.

Is the 'Send on Load' in the extern nenu set to 'on' in the program?J1963 wrote: 15 Mar 2026, 00:28 I’m also saving it; I can see that works separately for each programme, but when I then switch programmes on the Nord, nothing happens again. Done – the problem was that the last menu option, "Send On Load", was set to OFF. Thanks for your help!
