Nord Stage 2 Bad LCD Screen repair question

Post by Montebros »

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
My LCD screen went bad. I ordered a new one and I am in the process of installing it.

I was able to get so far as to get the new one installed BUT when I turned it on, the good news was that the screen lit up. Victory there. However, all the characters looked like this:

I suspect that the problem is that I could not get the ribbon ...

... into the ribbon receptacle well enough to make a good connection.

I am looking at the receptacle above and am wondering ... does the black plastic that surrounds the white part move or rotate in order to slide the ribbon in and then it clips back in place to hold the ribbon? I didn't want to force anything and break it or the receptacle.

If it doesn't move, how can I slide the ribbon in so that I know it is making the proper contact?

Thank you in advance for any help or advice

The black part is the latching mechanism. It pulls out like a desk drawer to unlatch.
Pull out the black piece (pull it OUT in the opposite direction indicated by your arrow in the picture above).
Insert the ribbon fully (usually about 2-3mm or just less than 1/8"). Be sure it is squarely inserted (not angled).
Slide the draw "closed" to latch it to retain the ribbon.
