Dead Key on Electro 2, not the usual suspects

Post by Clintmo1979 »

Hi everyone. New to the forum. I’ve spent the last few hours trying to get the F key working on this Electro 2 (73). I couldn’t see anything wrong but I cleaned out all the dust and debris. I cleaned up the rubber strip and the contact for that note. That didn’t work. Then I swapped the strip for one from the lower register. That didn’t work either. Hoping you all have some more suggestions for me to try.

Thanks!
Clint

Did you confirm that no mechanical issues exist with the key? That is, when the key is pressed, does it contact (and close) the contact switches?
You might need an ohmmeter to verify the contact closes.
You could follow the traces from the switch and look for any damage or corrosion (and check for continuity with ohmmeter).
It's possible that the bypass diode(s) for the contact switch got damaged. If you have a multimeter, try using the Diode Test mode to check the forward voltage drop value across the diode(s) associated with the faulty switch(es).

If you find any of this unclear, please ask. Also, consider uploading some photos of the circuit boards and mechanical parts in the region of interest. This might give us some clues.
