How to Play Sounds in Sample Library on Stage 2
Newbie Question. I'm in dire need of a Pizzicato String sound on my Nord Stage 2 EX. I looked through every sound in the Program Bank and did not find one. I stumbled into the OSC section of the Synth section and when I select SAMP and turn the knob to 14 I see ""Pizzicato OrchStr EnsStr" in the display momentarily and then it reverts to whatever Program I have selected. I feel like I'm close but missing a step(s) to figure out how to actually play and/or save that sound. Help?

Samples are just waveforms for the synth, you need to save the Program or at least the Synth Preset.
Note: a full reading of NS2 manual is highly recommended…

Re: How to Play Sounds in Sample Library on Stage 2
A Program is a set of up to 6 (internal) sounds... "SLOT A" can have a piano sound, and organ sound, and a synth section sound; and "SLOT B" can have another piano, organ, and synth sound. So it sounds like you have successfully selected a new SAMPle for one of those two synth sounds. Having done that, yes, the display will go back to showing you the name of the Program you're in (which you have not changed). If you're not hearing your newly selected synth sound, check that its volume is up, and that it has been assigned to play over the section of keys you are playing, in a slot that is active. And maybe turn off any other (piano, organ, other slot) sounds that you may be hearing That may help you figure out why what you did didn't seem to work. Hopefully, you will find that you can play that string sound. But I wouldn't save it just yet, because that will permanently alter the Program, which may not be what you want. Which brings me to this:
It sounds like what you really want is not to modify some existing Program, but rather to create a *new* Program that consists of just this sound, yes? In that case, it's best not to start with an existing "in use" Program that can have all kinds of other assignments in it, but instead go to an "empty" Program location and start from there. There will be fewer variables to worry about.
You shouldn't need to Save it just to play/hear it. But sure, at some point, if he comes up with a sound that gives him what he's looking for, he'll want to save it for future recall.

Thank you!! Much easier than reading the entire manual while the conductor is waiting for me to select a Pizzicato patch. Would you also ask the forums about the music the conductor is expecting you to play (and wait 1 hour or more for an answer) or do you study it at home before?

Seriously, NS manual is relatively small and requires not a lot of time to be read, but it is a good investment.
