Discovered a new amp that is really good!

Post by Wavepackets »

I have been trying to improve my guitar playing skills. I recently purchased a new amp for my electric guitar. When it arrived I noticed that it was setup to also use a channel with a keyboard. I plugged in the NS2 and dialed in a good Rhodes patch. Wow! I was really suprised to hear such a good tone come out of this small light amp. I usually use QSC k10s as keyboard amps/monitors, and also have an couple EV ELX112Ps to try from time to time. I think I like this Quilter Micropro 200 better. It really sounds like a nice warm tube amp with a very clear tone. It is also only 21 pounds. I puchased the one with the 10 inch speaker. I think keyboard players are going to love this thing when the word gets out. The vintage keyboard sound are terrific with this amp. It also sounds very good with my guitars. I will try to make a few demos with it soon. I plan to use it with the band at the next rehearsal.

Oh yeah, a guitar amp with a line-level input is a great idea to try the electromechanical piano samples through, I'm sure the Clavinet would sound good to - see if you can push a little distortion on it, just a touch and it'll probably sound good, too.

Back before I first got my Electro I would gig with a Rhodes into an old blackface Twin and a Voce V5 into a Leslie 145 - the Electro got rid of 170 pounds of stuff I used to haul and sounded fantastic.

Acoustic pianos, not so much, but the vintage stuff is great through a good amp that adds color.

It also has a Direct Output that can be used to go straight into the audio interface, while maintaining the amp tone. I tried it out, and it sounds really good. I am still amazed at how this amp produces such a clear, vintage tone for keys...and it can get very loud! I'm still liking it a lot. I also like the fact it only weighs 21 pounds. I hate to haul heavy gear.

Oh wait, the DI out is after the amp stage? Nice. I sent an email to the company and the CEO responded explaining that he thought it would work very well for keys, so I may pick up the 12" version at some point. They've got a money-back guarantee for a little while longer, so I suppose there's nothing to lose.

Cool. I think your going to really like it. If you get one, I am interested in knowing how you like the 12" version. I am really liking this 10" version with the electromechanical keys patches. Of course, it is not as good as the k10s for the acoustic pianos and synth/pad sounds, but that is not a surprise. I forgot to mention that I put a Radial JDI box with the -15dB pad on between the NS2 and the amp. I always use a DI box on the output of my keyboards (makes everything more consistent sounding when using different PA's, etc.). I don't know if you play any guitar, but this amp has a really nice tone with my Collings electric. I put the NS2 into channel 1 and the guitar into channel 2. This amp is going to get a lot of use. Let me know if you decide to get one. That 30-day return guarantee is a nice way to make sure your happy with it since you cannot try one out in a store.

HeyI know it's been a few years, I am looking to buy the quilter micropro mach 2 as well for my stage 2 and mainly play with EP sounds. Do you think it is still worth it? Stereo monitoring seems expensive for me right now and this seems like a good option.

Back in the day...we use to use a Fender Twin for keys. A decent PA full range speaker is better.

Back in the days? Well, nothing beats my Roland JC-120 for Key-Amping for me - from the 80ies till today...

... but this smart new JC-40 can handle Stereo-Input - maybe I should give it a try...
