For once, the manual is surely not enough

Post by Tony Fuzz »

Hello boys,

I'm currently trying to control my NS4 via midi CC in order to control any parameter from external commands. From the manual appendix, do you know if there are any ressources online with more information. Per example, for the reverb type change, how do i know which value make cathedral reverb ? I've tried manually and you have to divide 127 by 12(6 different reverb 2 variations ) and take a value between 10x and 10(x+1). This is a pain.

[Reverb]
Reverb Enable : NRPN 2:104
Reverb Bright : NRPN 2:106
Reverb Amount : CC#113
Reverb Type/Variation : NRPN 2:105
Reverb Global : CC#30

Indeed, the MIDI feature list for Nord products doesn't comply with what I expect from a MIDI Implementation Chart.

The way to get what you need to know should nevertheless not be very complicated: Just install a MIDI viewer on your computer and connect it to the Nord. Whatever knob you turn or button you press should result in the relevant MIDI commands. Just note them down if you need to know details.

Hi Tony,

maybe the app MIDI MAPPER can be of some help for you, look here:
https://schroederonline.de/midimapper

I use it on my iPad, works great.

Good luck and cheers from Germany

How to get the Nord stage 4 to send MIDI CC via MIDI output to the computer ?
From the MIDI Viewer i can see note being played but i don't see anything when turning a knob. (i've tried both MIDI output USB MIDI and USB DIN).
Edit : i found the solution : activate CC send & receive via the MIDI options in the settings, it works now, i'll make an update

Great work!

Any idea how to increase or decrease the actual program +1 or -1?

Thanks

Probably no way except for the program up/down pedal directly plugged into the keyboard. At least, that's how it is with the Stage 3.

Via MIDI, programms are addressed absolutely not relative to the starting program number. You can only replicate the behaviour you are looking for if you know the starting point and let an external device calculate the program number +1/-1.

The MSB and LSB commands are used to change banks/programs. I've attached a chart I made that maps out all the NS4 bank/program MIDI program changes.
