Samples (.nsmp, .nsmp2, .nsmp3 etc) can only be added to the Sample section of the Nord. Are you certain you're not trying to drag it to the Synth or Program sections?

How to get the MP3-Player:

Click the "PLACE INLINE" button after uploading the MP3 sample in order to automatically create a Flash MP3 player in your post!

As noted by analogica, please check that you are trying to drag the NSMP files to the Sample section of NSM and let us know if you're still having a problem. I tried NSM v9.14 with my Stage 4 and the conversion worked fine.
