NS3 88 Mboard gone again!

Post by tuejan »

So back in 2021 my NS3 88 started to not turn on. Then completely stopped turning on. The great guys at Nightlife Electronics in Vancouver replaced the mboard and after that I never turn it off (to the extent that my OLEDs are very burned in) . Well downtown Vancouver had a pretty substantial power outage last Sunday and surprise surprise my Nord won't power on again. Expensive toys are expensive to fix for sure, but I have 7-8 keyboards that are all permanently plugged in on the same power supply and none of them has had any issues (that's a tiny untruth because my Hydra synth desktop has had a couple of the pad lights flashes intermittently for 4 years ;) )

So maybe the mboards only last 3-4 years. That's not the greatest build quality.
But having it fixed is cheaper than a $8k NS4.

Or….

It could be the fuse or it could be the power supply.

Wouldn’t jump immediately to the main board.

Yeah I checked the fuse, and if you listen careful you can hear the power board hum. Of course it could be the power board but it's likely not. I haven't read of a power board dying on a NS3, whereas there are numerous mboard ring events documented.
