Hello
I am considering buying a Nord Stage 3.
I have a question about the Nord Sample Editor software. On the various tutorials I found, we can reproduce a sound from a wav file.
From a practical point of view, if I want to have the same sound as in a song (for example the brass synth of the intro of Power of love), should I isolate my track on the music (backing track file for example) or simply keep the 3s of the song where we hear this sound, then I save my extract in wav format, I throw it in the software then in the keyboard, and I will be able to play with the same sound as in the original song?
Thanks
Will

Re: Question about Nord Sample Editor
Samples are a static approach towards sound. The Nord Sample Editor allows for extracting existing sound sniplets as a base for a keyboard sound. That sample will get (automatic) loop points in order to play it even longer than the sniplet was and can get a velocity filter applied, so that it sounds a little different when played with more or less emphasis. That's it. To get it more vivid, you can apply FX afterwards: tremolo, wah, reverb etc.
This is a very practical approach and will be good enough for a lot of live purposes. It may depend on the nature of the sound, if a sniplet of 3 s will be enough for reproducing the sound's movements or not.

Re: Question about Nord Sample Editor
Hello Will, your question is not specific to Nord Sample Editor or Nord sampels in fact, it is applicable to any synth that can work with samples actually.Groswilly wrote: ↑02 Mar 2025, 09:55 Hello

My 2ç is: attempting to reproduce a song in a perfect identical way it is a waste of time, it will never be perfect and the audience won't give a dime to it; the best is to try and create a sound that is "as close as possible" to the original without pretending to be the same.
For the specific case of Power of Love (Huey Lewis) to me it is more of a Synth Brass sound than a real brass (or at least if I were to play it I'd go for Synth Brass, so no sample needed, just a good Synth Brass patch; as a sample, of you really want it, you may try the "A1 The Prophet" from Nord Sample Library - Synth Classic category)
If you want a sample instead, see this thread also viewtopic.php?p=181060

Re: Question about Nord Sample Editor
Thanks for your answer.
It's true that I'm not necessarily looking for the exact sound but a sound that is very close.
Power of love was an example. Thanks for the link.
To come back to my question, even if I isolate the different instruments of a song, it is not possible to create a similar sound with Nord Sample Editor?

Re: Question about Nord Sample Editor
I imagine the NSE function as taking existing sounds from another source ...
(typically samples of individual notes, maybe even a "cut" song, all stored in files .wav)
... assigning them to individual keys and creating a file for downloading this sound to the NORD instrument.
