Naming Live Presets on NS4

Post by Carb88 »

I wish you could name Live presets. I understand that the naming Live Presets will not be permanent and would be changed on the fly along with the other parameters. The feature of being able to name Live presets would make the live mode so much useful and helpful. This would save time from fumbling around trying to find a live mode patch, but forgot which of the eight buttons it is stored in.

As an update, I found I can name my NS4 live presets. It's my NS3 that will not allow me to name live presets. All this time I assumed the NS4 wouldn't let me either, but it does. Is the inability to name NS3 presets a bug? Or is it a feature that needs to be requested?

So, naming live presets have become confusing to me. Per my prior post, I thought I could name a NS4 live preset, but it actually stores a copy of the the live program in a normal preset position. So I still can't really name a live preset. The NS3 acts like you can name the live preset when you go through the process, but when you press the final "save", nothing happens and the Live Preset does not get a new name and remains "Live 1, 2, 3, etc".

Live buffers are not "presets" so they don't have a name, when you need a name you can save them as Programs.

Well, they do have a name that is displayed. The name is either Live 1, Live 2, etc... It would be nice if you could change that name.

Maybe it is useful to leave those as Live 1, etc., because as soon as any parameter is changed, the original program is modified, i.e. one cannot go back to the 'named preset' (unless it is edited back as before).

No solution, but for discussion:
I personally cannot understand why people use Live Mode for performances. In Live mode you can never be sure what settings you start with.
I use my own programs where I can be sure to start with the right settings.
For me starting point is a set of own "standard" programs. If nessesary I tweak one of them to my taste an save a new program (e.g. Song name). For the performance itself I create new Song Lists.
