Nord Rackmount Piano Module

Sorry to be skeptical, but I think it won't happen. They (Clavia) just want to make us to pay the whole packet. I also think they know that there are quite many people who do NOT like that much their fatar-keyboards (maybe engineerjoel is one of them because of his wish?). I think they fear that releasing modules would seriously decrease their keyboard sales. I think this this fear is real... Of course I am just speculating here

Hello All,
in the "for what it's worth" column.
The musical instrument industry is moving away from producing rack mountable midi sound modules.
I've been told the Electro 2 Rack wasn't a big seller.

And wouldn't you lose the practical advantages (especially of an NS2)? It would become a pretty large rack unit if you want all the functionalities on it.

And I agree with Hanon. Is there a future for rack units?? You see more and more a Macbook on stage. In that little lightweight machine you can put hundreds of racks in it. Far more usefull I think.

IMO there's still some special case here with Nord. I think I am not the only one who thinks that Nord has amazing sound but its keyboard it's not its best part. I have accepted this fact and adjusted my own playing to it and in fact started to like it. That's because it's kind of a nice compromise between e-piano touch and grand. Anyway it took me many years to move to Nord from Roland. And only reason was this keyboard action. So I am personally this type of customer who would have bought especially Nord Piano model, just for getting those sounds. BTW I had a short time when I still had both Roland RD700GX and Nord Piano. I must say I liked to play Nord Piano with GXs touch; those two together gave me amazing grand piano feeling! So if there had been Nord Piano module at that time, I would certainly have chosen that kind of solution. Remember that many keyboards like RD700GX have other benefits over Nord too than just action: they play midi & audiofiles, some has internal audio cards, many of them has great midi motherkeyboard functions. Clavia's best part is obvious: the best sounds which are freely downloadable. I still believe that there're many people who would just want to have that. (And as a piano/keyboard player I won't completely buy this Mac Book hypothesis. I have MBP with for example Pianoteq Pro, VB3, Lounge Lizard and I used to also have Ivory 2. Those soft synth solutions aren't even close to Nord if you think about the sound, playability and reliability).

Another possibility not mentioned is that for gigging, almost everyone I know in LA just wants to use one keyboard, no modules, extra midi, power and audio cords to hassle with. Most guys don't even want to be bothered with bringing a small mixer and two speakers for a stereo setup---they just use a crappy Roland keyboard amp or something like that.

I don't if that's a reason behind the lack of modules but just a thought....

The last module I used was the Wavestation and that was a long time ago...

Thanks for everyone's input on my post. Yes, I'm a huge big fan of Rackmount synth modules. My current key consists primarily of all rackmodules: Roland's MKS-80; MKS-70; D-550; JV-2080; Korg's M1REX; O1WR; Wavestation S/R; Yamaha's TX802....(don't laugh....I know, I know..It's all 80's and early 90's synths) All being controlled by a two (2) Yamaha MEP-4's and Yamaha KX-88 and KX-76 keyboards. What my rig lacks is really good pianos and organs....so, here is where I am leaning on NORD to hopefully provide those type of patches. I just don't need another physical keyboard.

Me, this is why I would like a Piano2/Stage2 Nord Rack : I would like my keyboard to easily record midi files on SD cards on something just as straightforward. Cheap (and yet mechanically apt) Casio piano keyboards do that, but they don't sound good. So I'd connect one to a Nord Piano module.

Of course, now if Clavia added the midi-file recording feature into their keyboards, along with an SD-card port or anything equivalent, it would be even simpler !

I don't want to bother with a computer when playing music. No way, never.
You see, I improvise a lot, but having to put up with the slightest software hassle takes my creativity away.
Moreover, I don't want to think about the recording. I want to forget about it, so it has to be as simple a pressing one button to start recording.

The need to sell existing gear is exactly the problem.Why make a module when you just spent three years on creating a new keboard that people would want to buy? Good job nord putting three seperate versatile sections into one keboard.
The samples are also very important and they still have to work on those.Do you want a new keyboard or more and better samples?
