Nord piano 5 piano sound muffled, don't know why
I recently bought a Nord Piano 5 and the sound was muffled, especially the piano section.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the piano to sound right but can't figure it out, I've looking through the manual for the piano section but can't find anything related to the problem.
The white piano, Royal Grand Piano, sounds nothing like the demo on Youtube. ( correctly specking, all the piano sounds muffled).
I recently used headphones and found that the piano sound was normal, very bright, clear, and beautiful. Not sure which part is wrong, I'm worried the problem is caused by the keyboard itself?

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Just to understand correctly: the piano sounds are OK when using headphones?
Questions:
- when you’re not using headphones, how do you listen while playing, e.g. speaker type, amplifier, interface or mixer?
- Are you using factory programs/sounds?

And a third question: Did you by any chance sum up the two channels into a mono channel? It affects the sound quite noticeably.

Welcome! If your keyboard sounds great through headphones, but not through speakers -- well, things are messed up.joylin wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024, 04:17 I recently bought a Nord Piano 5 and the sound was muffled, especially the piano section.

Check these:
- bad cables, mis-wired cables
- one cable wired backwards such that L and R cancel themselves out, leaving you with a strange, thin sound
- "pilot error" on the interface / mixer / etc.
- damaged speakers
With a little experimentation, I'm sure you can find it
I think I have gear issues ....

If I don't used headphone, the piano sounds pretty dry and muffled.
I used amplifier.
I used amplifier.

Which amplifier (brand and model) exactly?
Details are important, what you hear can depend more on amp and speakers than the source (in general in audio, the principle is that "the lowest quality element of the audio chain determines the overall quality")

Well, this is how I set it up for my Nord Piano 5, - I only use one cable plugged into the right out/left out and connected to my amplifier, that's it, nothing else.
Btw, is necessary to use Nord Pedal? I was using other brand Pedal, but don't think that will effected the sound so muffled.

Your pedal will have zero impact on the sound. As a few have suggested, the fact that you're running only one cable into a single amplifier is likely the issue. The Nord piano sound is best experienced in stereo, so if you can get a pair of powered speakers, that would be your best solution.joylin wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024, 17:49 Well, this is how I set it up for my Nord Piano 5, - I only use one cable plugged into the right out/left out and connected to my amplifier, that's it, nothing else.

What kind of amplifier and cable are you using?

Re: Nord piano 5 piano sound muffled, don't know why
If you plug a pedal into the wrong jack (especially the Control pedal jack), strange audio behaviour may occur. Disconnect all pedals when debugging audio issues. Also turn the NP5 off and on --I believe the pedals get detected at power on, so disconnecting the pedals while powered might not reset the pedal behaviour.joylin wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024, 17:49 Well, this is how I set it up for my Nord Piano 5, - I only use one cable plugged into the right out/left out and connected to my amplifier, that's it, nothing else.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Re: Nord piano 5 piano sound muffled, don't know why
You probably mean a dual/stereo cable with 2 plugs on both sides.
And you use a HiFi amplifier from your living room? (just a guess) Which is probably not best choice - you might need speakers that are able to handle the sharp transients in the sound: best may be a pair of studio or PA monitors depending on your situation.
What amplification do you exactly have?
