RCF TT515

Post by wweiss »

Ended up getting the TT515A’s… wow! By far the highest definition PA speaker I’ve ever used. As a pianist, honestly the first time I’ve been satisfied with a PA speaker. Piano, particularly with its transients, is notoriously difficult to amplify, and can get really harsh sounding in the upper mids and highs. Incredibly clear, detailed, uncompressed sound. Only $2,000 each :)

In the comments of the video, you clearly state that the RCF TT515 are not full range speakers. So I'm not sure why you'd recommend those on this very forum. As monitors? As part of the PA, completed by a sub?

There are NO PA speakers that are full range. Maybe if you want to carry huge/heavy 15" tops you can come close to subwoofer performance.

I didn't mean to needle you. The question was meant literally: What could you imag(in)e those boxes for?
BTW, I use my QSC K8.2 for both purposes: monitoring or amplificating my piano, not so much for a whole band.

I've been eyeing those RCFs as well, but have no legitimate need for them at this point.

To answer @fziegler's question: you could use these anywhere you'd use a similar 8" self-powered speaker (QSC, RCF, EV, etc.), but with better results. Smaller 5" transducers will yield a crisper, more focused acoustic piano sound than 8" transducers -- sounding more like a studio monitor that way. Watch for other mfgrs to copy this design before long.

And, yes, you'd want to use a small sub with anything smaller than 15".

No offense taken. The TT515 can not be used as a floor monitor. I also have the QSC K8.2. Unless you A/B them side by side you would be hard pressed to hear a difference. Definitely nothing an audience could tell the difference. Not sure I agree with the 5" vs 8" sonic difference?? You should be very satisfied with your K8.2 unless you fall into one condition-at high volume say 95dB+ QSC's get audibly harsh to the ear. In comparison the RCF TT line shows no sign of stress even though limit light is on. Amazingly enough, at these high volumes they sound as close to a studio monitor I have heard in a PA speaker. At 22 Lbs and thin form factor producing 127dB, some will be willing to spend the extra $$$. Adding a small subwoofer will transform either speaker into full range sonic heaven!
