New OS Wish-List

Post by Johannes »

When reading about the new OS that one can expect from Clavia for the Stages at some point, I just though about things I would like to be software-wise resolved so if you have anything to add please do so and let's hope Clavia will take it into account.
  • Allowing to change the Pitch Bend range
  • In the Stage Manager, there seem to be 10 slots for sounds in each of the piano categories so why not releasing e.g. the Mellotron Flute/String as npno Files and allowing users to upload them to their Stage, only would need to remember that e.g. Grand5 is a Mellotron
  • The speed of the Leslie setting in the SOUND menu does (at least for me) not seem to apply when I use the SUSTAIN pedal in order to switch speeds, i.e., it always turns to FAST immediately
  • Making some parameters that don't have the LED-Ring type-of fader MORPH-controlable, inparticular RESONANCE would be nice

+1 for adjustable pitch bend range!
+1 for the Mellotrons in *.npno format!

- I'd like to be able to use the Leslie individually in Panel A or B per Instrument category. Or a function so I can mix the dry signal with the leslie. The first would be easier to do, I guess. I like the sound of e-pianos through the leslie. But the leslie-only sound is too much. It sounds best to me, when mixed with the dry signal. I currently have to use my outboard Tube Rotosphere to do that.

- I'd die for a Rain Piano XL version!!! (has nothing to do with the OS, I know...)

PS: I have to check out the issue with the Leslie switching...

i dig this too ! I'd love to choose, e.g. flute and strings, no other mellotron sample

Man, can you read my mind ? (well, where is my mind anyway :-) )

I'd love to have a more user friendly librarian too :
  • allow me to re-order programs how I want them, not by replacing one with another (ex : if you want your 21.6 program to be in 4.1 and your 4.1 in 4.2, 4.2 in 4.3... good luck)
  • edit and patch parameters without the NS (expecially for ADSR durations)

Apparently that is indeed a problem (I just read the review of the EX /NE3 in Germany's KEYBOARDS 2009/1 magazine and they mention this point as one of the two negative points of the Stage - the other one being non-customisable split points, but I prefer having them fixed to two per octave but nice LED indicating me where it actually is...)
But the Leslie would be nice to have mor smooth (i.e. longer) transition from slow to fast. While it is really great with the mod wheel, this is not always feasible in a live situation so having more diverse settings for the transition periods in the SOUND menu (ie. more slower values) would be great.

Cheers
J

Reason: I wasn't clear about the Leslie's behaviour.

IMHO, it works when you switch speed with the button, not the pedal.

Absolutely!! Give us the mellotron sounds for the stage. I've recently been doing a lot of internet research on the nord stage (keyboard shopping), and it seems like a major hot topic. Everyone wants the mellotron sounds on their stage! I'll bet it will be a very popular download when released.

You both read my mind... Pitch bend customizable, ALL parameter morphable, and allow some (if not all) of the best and more useable mellotron samples to be used in the NS along with the pianos.

you would think that the programming team that works with these file types would not be mystified since they already have OS routines within the same family of instruments that are compatible. it seems odd that file formats / wave editor programs are all over the web with dozens of manufacturers...and somehow the red keyboard users remain stranded with a proprietary format that is not even adaptable within the product family.

since Nord Stage OS updates always pop up in June, once the NAMM/Messe orders are already shipping for the "latest / greatest", i am going to hold off on selling all my Nord stuff for another more adaptable brand name as they attempt to find their way out of the fog they have created for themselves.

OS Wish-List:

Separate Transpose Setting for EXT Channels - MIDI OUT / MIDI IN to allow a player to use the NS with other NORD instruments in a E-Flat band situation.

Morph of any parameter - show information on un-used top row of LCD

Samples - show information on un-used top row of LCD

Are you listening, Santa?

trying not to be unrealistic, these seem all doable via software:
-Polyphonic Glide for the Synth!
-Morph Function being enabled for all pots, not just encoders.
-the nord excels in quirky sounds, another lovely upright piano sample would be lovely, or maybe the celeste from the sample library?
-ooh, here's one... a sweepable mids EQ, put that Shift key to good use. This would be very nice if the morph is expanded.

not that I don't love this thing. thanks, clavia/santa.
