UPDATE: Foot switch program down not working

Post by Greeneyedpianist »

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL POST: turns out it was a software issue, I was on the OS 1.0 .. When I downloaded the new OS problem solved.. Thank you to those who chimed in. :thanks: :thanks:

I’m new to Nord and just purchased the Nord stage 4. I programmed the Boss FS-6 A/B foot switch; A=program down. B=program up. No matter what I do, it will NOT program down. I’ve tried every possible configuration. It will program up, but will not program down. I even talked to Sweetwater tech and they weren’t able to help me. I’m starting to believe it’s a problem with the Nord itself and not the foot switch because when I plug a single foot switch in it will also only program up, but not down.

Tech support suggested I back up my current settings and then do a factory reset. I won’t be able to do that until Monday because I have a gig tomorrow and I can’t risk loosing my settings.

Has anyone had this problem? How did you fix it? Is it a bug in Nord?

Thanks for any help on this.

Hi, you cannot "program" the pedals, they are just switches that have to be of the proper type and connected properly to Nord Stage Progeam up/down input, so a couple of questions:

- how are you connecting the FS6 to the Nord i.e are you using a stereo (TRS) cable connected to the A+B output of the FS6?
- are both pedals set as momentary and not latch on FS6?

Yes I understand you cannot program the pedals. I am using a TRS cable plugged into the foot switch in the back and into the A B in the Boss FS6.

I also tried all configurations on the FS6. Including both A&B to momentary. I even worked with the sweetwater tech through out this process and still it will only program up but never down.

Could this be a bug in the Nord? Would a factory reset fix it?

One more thing to check: how is the Foot Switch (Func 1 and 2) set in NS4 Pedal menu? Maybe Func 2 is not set as "Program Down" (and Func 1 to "Program Up")?

If menu settings are correct, since this works for other NS4 users, I would think more of a "bug of the cable" and try with a different TRS (or check its integrity with a multimeter)

As the OP wrote in the update to the first post, finally in his case the problem was related to not having updated the OS; have you checked that?

After several years of no problems with this, I suddenly can no longer change programs down anymore, either. Checked all settings and they all look ok, tried different cables, etc., and even two different foot switch pedals. Same result. So it's something in the Nord's OS, but don't want to save my setup and wipe it out and reset to factory just yet. I can get along without the pedal, but it would be way easier if it was working properly. I did update my OS (from 2.54 to 2.62, which is current), but this does not seem to have helped at all.

Another possibility is that your Program up/down pedal input jack has a problem (maybe it needs cleaning or resoldering?)

Have ns 88 and ne wtriple

- yes you can program the pedals

i've set mine as left up, middle sustenuo, and right sustain... as they're too close together and kept hitting the middle pedal by accident. rather disappointed with the pedal if im honest. Some software updates are required a sit doesn't work as should eg for Layer II pedal.

I'm away from home at moment, but you go into the pedal seetings and for each (the control, the foot switch, the triple x3 pedals etc you will find your options). I do think you can go down but can't check until Sunday

BUT ... you may be able to use the "foot switch" option to move down a programme, or maybe the control pedal to do so. Go into those menus.

Here is the best double tip you'll ever get (i hope)

1) If the foot switch doesn't work it because your not using a LATCHED foot switch, i use one to operate the LayerII pedal up and down, brilliant when playing, adding in an organ & strings pad etc

2) Shops will direct you to a boss FS5L.., £50. Which is fine but really difficult to hit with your foot when live... But the £10 version from gear for music works much better. and £10

For the music.
