Synth Engine : creating fifth chord on B Panel

Post by cookie »

I need to play 4 chords during an entire song, repetitive task...
Those chords are made of only 2 notes : 1st and 5th note (G+C Bb+Eb F+Bb C+F). Easy task but as the sound is quite loud, I'd like to avoid ripping from one of the keys.
Sound will be generated from the Synth engine, Sample or Synthesis, nothing defined yet.
Thinking of the potential option of layering the 2 synth panels, with the second panel playing the exact same sound but up a fifth : therefore simplifying and avoiding any missed notes.
Apart from resampling and assigning key=key+5, any bright ideas ?
If this is not possible or too complicated, will spread my two fingers and concentrate for 5 long minutes ;)

Try using a detune analog waveform and set it a 5th apart. That way you would only be using 1 synth.

Thanks, will try that.
To be more clear, I'm OK to have a full program that activates both Synth panel with 1 Synth panel detuned +5 semi-tones.
Stage 2 or Stage 3, no contraint here too !

I do something similar on a song, where I need to add the 5th of the chord on the octave below (so -5 semitones) to a lead sound but only when I need/want it. On NS3 I did it using the OSC Mix Saw configuration (with second OSC detune -5s) and morphing the OSC Ctrl to the CtrlPedal, from 0 to 50% so I can add the 5th gradually with it.

Another trick could be to use some external MIDI processor and have it generate a Note a 5th away from the one(s) played on NS, then send them back to the same Synth/Panel (I tried this too, using Camelot Pro on an iPad and using a Layer with the NS as both MIDI in and out, where you can set a fixed transpose)

I am 99% sure you can do this from a SINGLE panel on the NS3. I cannot remember for the NS2, though I could try it later to refresh my memory...pretty sure there's some way but it may require both panels.

On the NS3, I recently set up a sound for Foreigner's Urgent where I've got the Osc Config for a single panel set up with a -12 octave dive assigned to a control pedal morph...so I can start in standard tuning, sweep the pedal and the pitch dives by an octave. That could also be done for other intervals and not assigned to the pedal...so it's definitely possible. If you want to check my program as a starting point, see this thread:

I have a vague recollection of someone with an ABACAB program that has the fifth programmed into it...check this thread and there are a few others if you just plug in ABACAB into the search box on the forum.

Thanks for your feedback and interesting proposals.
I'll check and make some tests : once happy with the result, I'll share the program here !
