If you save in Song mode, it saves the changes made to the Song, not the sound programs themselves. The Song itself only references the individual programs.

If you want to save changes made to the individual programs, you have to switch OUT of Song mode, save the patch, and then switch back into Song mode.

If you edit the sound program, it will have changed in every Song that uses it.

I think you misunderstand:

The Reverb and ALL sound settings are part of the individual sound programs. They are NOT saved as part of the Song.

The SONG only says "part 1 is program A:41, part 2 is B:11, Part 3 is N:01" etc.

The SONG has no idea or any interest in what is actually stored in those program slots, or what it sounds like, whether there is any reverb saved as part of the sounds, etc.

Think of Song Mode as just simply a Shortcut (up to 5) to a program on your Stage 3. Just like a shortcut on a computer.

Maybe this is why Nord didn’t include Song Mode in the NS4

I have some "speculations" about Song Mode and why it didn't remain past the NS3...I'd love to be proven wrong one day if Song Mode makes a resurgence in a future NS4 OS or other product.

There's a long thread in the forum somewhere (I'll seek it out) where a number of us pointed out some of the issues we were seeing with the NS3 Song Mode and a wish list of features to make it better. I am still a big fan of Song Mode, don't get me wrong. Some of the main issues that I've learned to work around over time...
  • The previously mentioned complexity of saving Programs within Songs. It can't be done from Song Mode. User must exit back to the Program to save edits. This actually becomes easier after practice, though it is still an annoying extra step that seems like it could be more seamless.
  • Limited info shown in the display in Song Mode. The user can see the name of each Program, and that's about it. If the user wants to see the saved drawbar settings, piano/synth info etc. there's not much way to do this aside from pure memorization or exiting back to Program mode. This is another one that becomes less of an issue after lots of time programming well enough to "set and forget" each element in a Song.
  • Limited ability to organize Songs by project or band name. There are plenty of banks available and the display just stores generic info about them. I'd love to see a Song Mode where I can apply custom names to each bank. I play with 4-5 different bands, each of which use a totally different part of the Song Mode in my NS3. I've worked around this, though can see much more fluidity of use if I was able to partition Songs by project, even just basic labels to make it easier to sort and find things. This gets even more interesting when using multiple NS3 units or trying to set up for a rented backline instrument. One workaround I've added is including a two character descriptor for each Program and Song based on the band's name...so then I can do a search in Nord Sound Manager to isolate these things based on their naming convention.
  • Probably other things.
I'll take the NS3 Song Mode as it is, though I wonder if Nord's product and engineering people see some of the complex improvement opportunities and they decide to focus their time investment in other improvements for the NS4, such as making all panels visible in a single UI panel, the discrete FX partitions, the expansion of the synth, the drawbars/LEDs, etc. My guess is that keeping up all of these things and trying to iterate on a somewhat klugey Song Mode might be too much for the current iteration. Again, this is PURELY speculation on my part. ;)

It would be enough for me if I have the song mode again in the NS4 in the (same) form as in the NS3.
Of course you can do it even better as you described it ...
