Layers and midi

Post by Ecaroh »

I just tested Wave 2: if you put layer(s) off on synth itself those layers are still playable via midi. Why the hell it cannot be same with NS4?

Maybe because NS4 Layers are not "copy/paste" from NW2; you may ask teh same about the changes in MIDI capabilities between NS2 and NS3 (per section MIDI channel on the first was lost on the latter and only very partially compensated by a more flexible DualKB).

Difficult to understand from here if it is an overlook or a deliberate choice by Nord developers (in both cases), but looking at the problems that NS4 has also on MIDI Clock sync and other MIDI-related features (Aux CCs recognition, etc...) may tell something (?)

First, there’s no obviusly hardware limit - NS4 can handle that. And you can put (or not if you want) individual midi Ch:s to individual parts.

Second, if it was like in NW2 - disabling a part would actually mean ”local off”, not completely off - what would be the harm? I cannot see any problem with that.

*) we have been discussing about putting parts to ”local off” or ”no zone” but now I am beginning to wonder that do we even need that? Like in NW2 disabling simply means local off and you can play or not play it externally…

there is no "no zone" for externals on the NS4, like there was on the previous 3. And I'm not sure there ever will be. I was told by Nord back in the spring it would be an update. But it's been removed from the manual with newer revisions.
