Pedal noise with included pedal, or only the triple?

Post by Arthr2ShdsJcksn »

I'm playing around with my new Stage 4, and I had to trade in my triple pedal with my previous Grand, and am stuck with the included Nord Sustain pedal that came with the Stage 4.

I know that the new triple pedal allows for a bunch of features, but I would have thought that the pedal noise would at least work with the normal sustain... however, I don't hear it on the grand pianos, and the pedal noise light is on. Not a huge loss, but am I right? Does the normal sustain pedal not allow for pedal noise?

My nord stage 4 73 comes with a single pedal np1, that not the one with the half pedaling oder pedal noise afaik
The ntp1 or ntp2 was not in the box.

If I remember correctly, both NTP1 and NTP2 do support pedal noise, but only Nord Single Pedal 2.

Of course, you'd have to enable Pedal Noise on the piano layer you are using. And select a sample with pedal noise (all acoustic pianos should have that).

I can't check as I don't have a NS4.

Edit: Fortunately for you, you have 3 options (NS3 users have only the NTP1 option); unfortunately you don't seem to have selected any of those options.

I’ve been using the Kawai GFP-3 triple pedal with the NS4 which has the same exact functionality as NTP2 for $140! Awesome pedal, and big bang for the $! Highly recommended!

The answer is in the NS4 manual:

PED NOISE (PEDAL NOISE)
PED NOISE, (Shift + Soft Release/String Res) is available if a Nord Triple Pedal or a Nord Single Pedal 2 is connected to the nord Stage 4 (see below)

So you need a NTP1 or a NTP2 or a NSP2 or... what jeffkeys reported.

I definitely need to check this out. I do want the additional functionality (mostly switching between programs and the pump action) beyond the pedal noise, and if I can get that all of $140, I think its worth it....

Totally!! My favorite use is using the pedal to change the layer scenes in a program! I love not having to take my hands off the keys!

Did you end up getting the Kawai GFP-3 pedal unit? I created an app that triggers pedal noises with just any old switch-type sustain pedal and would be curious to know if that also works on the Stage 4, considering it has a new NTP with possibly new sustain triggering algorithms. I made a topic here: https://www.norduserforum.com/general-n ... 25232.html. Check it out if you are interested.
