I'm not sure what the last version of Windows was that worked (Mac user here), but the Eletro Tool for the old electro 2 will definitely not work in Windows 8.

You might try to change the compatibility in Win8. If you right click on the .exe file you should be able to change compatibility to Windows XP. This is no guarantee, but some programs do suddenly work that way.

And to add to analogika's list:
If you can't operate it and it's an Apple: Yosemite

That's odd. Apart from the usual bugs and initial incompatibilities, the overwhelming response I'm seeing is extremely positive.

I'm liking it a lot on the living room iMac. I can't upgrade the production laptop yet until my tools are certified on Yosemite.

Please Clavia. Wright a new firmware for electro 2 to make it compatible with the newer Nord Sound Manager !!!
The subroutine to include obviously allready exists.

I doubt that writing new firmware for the electro 2 would solve the problem.

For one, you'd have to get it ONTO the electro somehow.

For another, the electro is fine connecting to USB. That interface hasn't changed in the past ten years. The computer software side is what's changed.

However, I am not a developer, so...

The first step I took trying to upgrade my NE2 2.0 to 3.04: downgrading my Macbook Pro to MAC OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard...and it works! Using my installation disk I loaded a new installation on an external USB drive, which I can select at Mac startup when I press the Alt button.
But now... My Mac does not see the USB connection to the Nord and running the Nord Tool 3.0.
And... I have no Midi cable to connect my Mac to the Nord to upgrade it.
How to proceed ?
Anyway, here is one step forward for Mac addicts with a NE2!

Hi Henk,

Snow Leopard is not needed for OS update -- it is needed for installation of piano samples after OS update completed.

OS update is via midi only. You must have a midi interface.
Piano sample loading is via USB only using Electro Tool freeware, Snow Leopard or earlier on Mac, Win7-32 or earlier on PC.

Bless,

Pablo

So I need both connections: step 1 is upgrading to 3.04 using Midi for which I will buy me a midi-usb cable. Step 2 is to upgrade the piano sounds via the Nord Tool 3.0 on Mac Snow Leopard. I am curious if my usb connection will show up after the update... Keep you informed!
Ps1 I own a iRig midi interface on my iPad2. Midi control by the Nord keyboard on GarageBand works fine, it uses the sound generators of the iPad however.
Ps2 I wonder if iPad can receive the midi program dumps of the iPad through the iRig midi app and... If it can return midi files to the Nord, i.e. the 3.04 sysex upgrade data.......... Would be nice for many users!
Happy music! Henk

It is possible, I’ve used Parallels emulator software to run windows 7 32-but on a newer MacBook Pro. Make sure when you get the virtual windows 7 running you download the electro driver and put it in the system 32 windows folder and then install from the device manager. Getting the driver installed is the hardest part, everything else is easy, Parallels and Windows 7 iso is available online. Other than that, you’ll have to find an older laptop on eBay running 32 but windows 7, doesn’t work with XP btw.
