Nord electro 6D key sounds in lower mode only

Post by pablondonvito »

Hey There, it is my first time posting here, so thanks for this amazing community!

I just bought a second hand Nord electro 6D which was pretty dirty giving me problems with 2 key velocities.
I opened and cleaned it carefully getting the problems fixed: every key now respond perfect to the velocity. Everything was running fine when I assembled the keyboard again.
Today, I found out that the G#4 was not giving any sound at all! After playing a while when I change programs to a preset with DUAL mode, the sound comes out only from the LOWER part! Super weird! I got really lost with this...

I will try to open it again and see what could be wrong but before I would love to know if anyone here knows about what could be related to..

Thanks a lot

Pablo

It may not be related to dual mode but perhaps the part that plays is an organ?

If the board is set up so that the upper contact triggers the organ, then the organ will play as soon as the upper contact closes and the lower contact isn't used.

Other sounds, however, depend on the lower contact to trigger. If the upper is faulty, then it will usually play with full volume. When both works, the instrument obviously play all sounds normally.

So perhaps the upper contact isn't working for that particular key?

Hey Bækgård, thanks for your reply!
Is not the case. When I use just a piano sample, I have no sound from the G#4 at all but when I enter dual mode (with organ or synth) the works normal for the Lower sound (also the velocity) but just doesn't for the upper.
I am really lost about this.

It sounds like a problem with the contacts (the top contact does not seem to be detected?). I would open the board again and check that all the silicone contacts are well in place (I remember reading that sometimes they appear to be in position but they are not, they have some tiny silicone "pins" that need to be carefully aligned and inserted in the corresponding holes in the board). Also check that all ribbon cables are fully inserted (perhaps disconnected and connect them again).

Thanks, agree this is the smart thing to do. I will reopen it this weekend and be back to this thread with the result.
