NS4 analog mono synth lead sounds

Post by mozart999uk »

Looking for some nice analogy / vintage lead sounds. Oberheim / moogs etc.... Not finding anything satisfying in the factory presets so far. Got a basic understanding of synth architecture / programming but not enough to get to where I want to be.

Anyone created anything or could point me in the right direction? Something like this would be great to start with

Cheers :-)

Hi,

to get a moog sound I suggest to put together 2 different layers and assign a classic OSC such Triangle and SAW in 2 different octaves (SAW- 12). Then you could filter (LPM filter) them together using the section funcion and use a modulator control to manage the filter. Su ggest to play also with resonance knob to get a better classic Moog sound.
This is quite easy to do with nord Stage 3 not sure how much easy will be with the NS4.

Please just let us know if you will be able to get it finally!

It sounds strange there are not Programs or Synth Presets in NS4 of that category to start from and modify to taste

Anyway I suggest also to look at the Nord Sample Library to get waveforms that can be used as the starting point and probably with those just 1 Synth layer will be enough in many cases, for example look at https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-lib ... synth-lead (not sure how many are preloaded in NS4)

Under https://nordusersounds.com/sounds there are different Moog-Sounds. Eg. https://nordusersounds.com/sound/50264 and https://nordusersounds.com/sound/50263 are good nsmp3-files which you can directly use.

Isn‘t the strength of an NS3 or 4 synth its capability of setting up „real“ synth sounds on the base of waveforms, ADSR curves and all the other nice things a moog or Prophet or Oberheim had? So I would start with sawtooth waves on two oscillators, one set to an octave different from the other, detune them a bit, give them a short attack time, adjust preferably the higher one‘s filter cutoff decay short, add some nice chorus or soft flanger effect and see how I could get further.

Samples in my opinion are too static to sound good, at least on nords.

Cheers from Germany

The NS4 has a Multi option that can be tried as well that includes two saw waves an octave apart with detune so only one synth layer is needed.

Well, just for speculation: what would be the difference if you sample a waveform of a detuned-1 octave apart sawtooth from a real Moog/Prophet/Oberheim (or form the Nord itself)?

Unless the VA has the possibility to simulate drift or other analog behaviour artifacts (which is not the case of Nord Stage synth) and you don't plan to modulate the OSC Ctrl, you'll get the same in terms of output from the OSC section (or better, because the sawtooth of a real analog synth is less perfect and peculiar of each model) :)

So, imho in the end it depends on what you want to get, case by case. On NS2 for example when I wanted to re-create a typical 3 Octave Moog Bass that I had in a VST (and I needed to have it on a single synth section), even if it was not a complex sound I had no choice but to sample it and the final result was pretty good, very close to the original. :-)

The multi option of dual saw is usefull, but I like more the NS3 approach by now.
I'm looking forward to see some video online dedicated to the synth part.
