NORD ELECTRO 6D lots of questions

Post by nehemias1995 »

Hi Everyone! I've had a Nord Electro 6d HP for a while now and just started picking it back up since I will start playing in a wedding band! Now with that being said I have so many questions I've had for years but never bothered getting the answer but I'm exited I found this Forum

1. After Reading around I just found out this instrument is a stereo instrument!? I've been playing for years on the LEFT channel and I always have to lower the bass frequencies is it because the left channel is more on the low end? if I connect to the Right input would my sound be on the higher brighter side? What happens if I connect to the headphone jack which is Stereo? Also what would you recommend to get the best quality audio out of the keyboard? should I connect a cable that is left and right output and merges into one 1/4 or should I connect directly into an amp or PA system with both left and right channels being two separate cables?

2. Headphone jack: When I plug into it I ONLY hear everything on my left ear, why is that? the only way I can hear stereo is getting two mono 1/4 and connect one to the left and right channel which leads to an 1/8 for my headphones. is there something turned off on the keyboard and I only hear one side on the headphone jack or is there sometIhing wrong? I've tried different headphones so i know it isnt that

3. the monitor input on the back of the nord is stereo correct? so would that mean I can connect a second keyboard to it? I've figured how to match the volumes well since I don't touch the volume knob once i start playing. I have a microkorg plugged in with a 1/4 into a 1/8 adapter directly into the monitor input. would some sound quality of the second keyboard be lost and would running a second keyboard hurt the nord in any way?

Re stereo, Nord Electro boards have a Mono button on them. If it is selected for the current program, you should get identical sounds out of the L and R outputs. Some Nord-provided acoustic piano sound work pretty well with Mono. I have found some of them sound weird in the one octave starting at middle C and going down.

Your headphone problem suggests that the connection into the NE is broken or doesn't fit properly. Otherwise something's wrong with the input on your NE, which is not impossible but less likely. In my experience, many jack connectors don't work properly, so If you use an adaptor between your headphone jack (6,35-3,5 mm) and the NE input, I would replace it by a high quality new one.

With regard to question #1, I have had the best luck connecting both the L and R outputs to my speaker/amp simultaneously and NOT using the MONO button. My perception is a fuller, more rounded sound and better frequency distribution. Not saying the MONO button is wrong or ineffective, but routing both outputs is most pleasing my own ear.

Can't really answer questions 2 or 3 as I've never encountered either situation.

2. many people had a similar problem using mini-jack/jack adapters: is that your case? Have you tried with different headphones?

3. yes and you should have no loss of quality unless you saturate the Monitor IN (so just check that the volume of the second keyboard is not too high)
