Position for Radial Keylargo

Post by gfullick »

Hi everyone
I have just purchased a Keylargo to mix my keys setup, and was wondering where people are locating their Keylargos. I know that it’s designed as a pedal, so I was intending to locate it on my pedal board to make connection and transport much easier, but I have niggling thought in the back of my mind about what if I really need to make volume adjustments on the fly. I typically play with a NS3C on the bottom and an Electro 6 on the top, but both boards are connected via midi to an iPad that plays soft synths. The output from the soft synths is a headphone out jack that plugs into the Keylargo. The Nords are fine as I can adjust volume via the volume pot, but the only volume control on the soft synths is via the iPad’s volume button or the Keylargo volume pot.

Has anyone else got a similar setup, and if so is this much of a problem? I can always lean down and turn the pot on the pedal board, but in the heat of a solo that might be an issue.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Graeme

i have mine on my pedal board but I leave myself a bit of headroom on the main out on the synths in case I need to goose either of my keyboards a bit in the heat of the moment.

I use one in a rehearsal rig and have it permanently mounted in a rack.

Happy New Year.

I have a slightly smaller mixer which I have below my lower keyboard, easily reachable, in a construction made by myself with carriers for balcony flower cases (some native speaker may know the right english name for these).

Hi and happy new year!

Mine is mounted on my pedal board and I do the same as Jeff - leaving some headroom on my Nords just in case

why not using the ext section of the stage for the soft synths? You could control their volume from there without the need of a separate chanell on the mixer.

I only use my Key Largo live, and I have it sitting on a Gator GFW-UTL-MEDIATRAY2 along side a Vent 2, 2 Lounsberry pedals, and my Cioks to power them all. It's a bit sloppy, but everything is at the level where I can tweak if I need to without bending over. I keep that tray to one side of me.

Thanks everyone,
Looks like people are split between pedal board and next to keys. I will give it a try and see how it works for me.

I have the Largo too, and have it next to the boards, but honestly, despite of the high praise it gets, its form factor is a bit strange. Function-wise, it's a mixer (and pretty limited at that). As far as building features go, it's clearly a pedal. It's a compromise either way you want to place it.

It's still a nice piece of gear, and if you count the cost of a mixer + DI box, it's still not outrageously expensive, but it certainly has its downsides too. I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

I've mostly placed it in keyboard height, but it makes totaly sense to place it as a pedal/DI.
I really like the USB functionality, which let me play audio from my iPad. Was very handy when doing X-mas gigs with my Stage + two second keys and an iPad.
