Piano Library vs Product Library and what is the 2GB for?

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

2GB refers to total piano memory, and Nord pre-loads a selection of pianos to get you started. There’s no reason to keep those if you don’t like/want them. As mentioned earlier in the thread, Nords are not meant to be preset-only (though there’s nothing inherently wrong with using them that way, either).
The permutations of what you can store in that space are wide, considering that most are available in various sizes.
Nord’s Piano library is common to all instruments that have a piano section, so in theory, they should all sound the same. Not sure I would trust YouTube’s audio quality to judge instruments… demoing usability or an interface walkthrough, sure.
Good luck with your decision. I was fortunate enough to have THREE Nord dealers in a 10-mile radius when I bought my first. Have you contacted the US distributor to see who else might be in your area, aside from Guitar Center?

(Product Library as on https://www.nordkeyboards.com/downloads/nord-piano-5 )
Yes, Nord has chosen some of the Piano samples from the Product Library and pre-installed them in the instrument
ryaneuler wrote: so if Product Library already includes:
Piano Library
GRAND

White Grand XL 6.1
Royal Grand 3D YaS6 XL 5.4
Velvet Grand Model1 Lrg 5.3
Silver Grand SK7 Lrg 5.3
Grand Imperial Bdorf Lrg 5.3
Studio Grand 2 YaC7 Lrg 5.3
Bright Grand YaS4 Med 5.3
Mozart FortePno A.Walter Med 5.3
EGrand 3 Mono CP80Amped Sml 5.3
then... under https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-lib ... hite-grand

The list is:
Grand Pianos
White Grand
Royal Grand 3D
Velvet Grand
Silver Grand
Italian Grand
Bright Grand
Grand Imperial
Grand Lady D
Studio Grand 1
Studio Grand 2
Concert Grand Close
Concert Grand Ambient
So does that mean we don't need to download White Grand, Royal Grand, Velvet, Silver, ... because they are all factory installed already?
Yes, no need to reload the exact same sample, EXCEPT if you want to have a more detailed version of that sample (see the specs for S, M, L and XL versions) or less (to save inside the 2G memory space and upload new Piano samples).
ryaneuler wrote: If so, then what is the 2GB for?
You can upload any samples from the Product Library in the 2Gb.
You can play with the piano size to have more samples or more detailed samples.
ryaneuler wrote:
Also... we have 2GB to download Piano sound, and 1GB to download other Instrument sound (Sample Library)... and so Nord Grand and Nord Piano 5 both have 2GB for Piano Sound, but Nord Piano 5 has 1GB sample sound capacity, but Nord Grand only has 512MB capacity?

So for the 2GB, such as Silver, if we download the 200MB version, that means we download about 10 of those?
There is a 50MB version of Silver... does that mean it is a lower resolution (or lower sample rate) one?
You can replace the 200M Silver with a less detailed 50M version of Silver sample, and with the 150M that are now available, load a Rhodes sample for i.e.
ryaneuler wrote: However, since most Grand Pianos are included in the factory installation, why do we still need to download them?
No. But if you don't need them, you can delete them and load other samples.
ryaneuler wrote: Also, I was thinking that since a 256GB microsd card can be US$28 on Amazon... so 2GB or 1GB is really small size, relatively speaking...
It's not the same memory type and the philosophy of Nord is to customise your board with your own needs, meaning selecting your samples.
In the end, I find this smart for my use : less is best :)

PS: Take time to read the manual. Only around 30 pages very pragmatic and useful !

For info, there is an XLS that contains almost all of the Piano Samples : post136665.html?hilit=Excel%20piano#p136665
You can select which samples and it will give you visibility on the 2Gb limit.

How do you have the conscience to press Submit to say they answered the questions?
Talking about conscience…
