Nord Monitor Speakers - Left on but no sound

Post by ramstein74 »

Hello just bought a pair of new nord monitor speakers.
The problem is that only the right speaker emits sound.
The main speaker, the left on has the led on but no sound.

I tried the audio out from my iphone and from my new lenovo laptop.
No left sound.
Any help?

The left speaker is powered from the amp in the right speaker.

1. Make sure the speaker cable is fully inserted (sure it is, but check anyway)
2. try a different speaker cable for the left speaker (you can use a guitar cable if you don't have a speaker cable, but not permanently).
3. if you have another speaker cabinet available, plug it in instead of the left speaker to see if the amp is working correctly.
4. if you have another amp that has 1/4" outputs, you could plug the left speaker into that amp and see if the speaker works.

NOTE/WARNING: Do all of these tests at low volumes.

One of three conditions currently exists (its possible but unlikely that more than one of these conditions apply)
1. the speaker cable going between the cabinets is faulty.
2. the amplifier is faulty.
3. the left speaker is faulty.

if 1 is true, have the dealer send you a new speaker cable.
If either 2 or 3 are true, send the speakers back for a replacement.

Maybe i´m reading it wrong but the one that does not produce any sound is the main speaker, also this speaker has the led turned on and gives sound to the other speaker.
The other speaker works perfectly. Its just the main one that dont emit sound.

Ah, my mistake in understanding which speaker was which, but this does help with diagnosis.

You have a defective pair of speakers. Its most likely something simple and mechanical like the wire connected to the internal speaker has come loose, but there are other possibilities (defective amp, cold solder joint on the circuit board, etc).

You should contact the seller/dealer and have the speakers replaced.

If your mechanically/electrically inclined and feel comfortable opening up the speaker and potentially voiding your warranty. (it should be removal of the 10 outside screws holding the back plate), you can check if its something as simple as a loose wire. (if your going to do this, unplug all cables from the speaker, and make sure you have a screw driver that properly fits the screw heads or you will damage the screws. I would also highly recommend doing this with a hand held screwdriver, NOT a screw gun)

SAME Problem :-) Just opened the box today and the left (power) monitor has red LED light on but no sound coming out.
Only the right side works. Contacted the Dealer in Ontario, Canada, awaiting a response.

Fingers crossed.
