Troubleshooting my new Stage 3

Post by Nos402 »

Firstly hello! Finally just got my new Stage 3 Compact in today and I couldn't be more psyched. However I'm troubleshooting a few issues and just wanting to make sure it's not newbie user error. I don't think it is as I've read the manual completely.

1. The H split LED does not illuminate. L and M do, but H does not even though the split is active and does work. I've opened a ticket with "Warranty service" provider listed on Nord's site. This is a bummer as I really don't want to have to part with my brand new board but at least it's a trivial matter that doesn't affect playing.

2. This one I'm a slightly less sure about. I have tried 3 different expression pedals on the Control Pedal and Swell pedal jacks. A Boss FV-500L, a Mission Engineering EP1-L6. and a Line 6 pedal. None of them work on either jack. Now I know they aren't listed in the system menu settings, but aren't expression pedals fairly universal? I'd understand if I was having non-optimal performance, but they simply don't do anything at all. The percentages in the system menu never register. I thought it would be strange to have 2 totally unrelated issues like that on a new KB so I just thought I'd see if anyone here had any insight. I had seen at least one other user say they had used the Boss pedal without any issues.

Thanks!

Hello, welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your purchase! 1 - good move on getting the warranty service. 2 - on the Boss FV-500L are you using the EXP out with a TRS cable (looks like a stereo cable)? There's a pretty thorough post at nord-stage-forum-f3/best-expression-ped ... 00#p115293 on control pedals.

Thank you! This was indeed apparently me being dumb. I was not using a TRS cable as I have only used my EXP pedals with my Line 6 Helix and strangely they work there with a normal 1/4" guitar cable. The TRS at least gets the Boss pedal working (though not the other two but since they were made for Line 6 stuff, it may simply be a compatibility issue)

You're welcome! If you haven't already, I would suggest downloading the latest Operating System (OS) for your Stage 3 at https://www.nordkeyboards.com/ along with the Nord Sound Manager and Nord Sample Editor 4. Good luck to you!

OS is up to date and I had downloaded the sound manager, but being so new to it, I can't add any more piano sounds without removing some and I don't know them well enough to know what I might want to remove or add! Love it though.

I took the approach of replacing the XL versions of the pianos to add quite a few more - here's a link to my post on that with the list: nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files- ... st#p130083

The only change since the list was created was loading the new Felt Piano in place of two others I didn't use. Take care

I followed your lead after doing more research and deciding that since this is mainly a live board for me, the nuances of the XL patches weren't worth the extra memory as they won't be heard with a live band, so I replaced them and that made room for just about everything else I wanted to add, which then when I checked your PDF was very similar! Thanks again!

It was indeed a dead LED which got fixed under warranty at a local shop that was an authorized repair center.
