Post by Kevinology »

STRANGER IS HERE! XD
Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, good evening, good night, wherever u are, it's really good to meet you all!
This is Kevin from South Korea, I’m a Pianist, Composer, Orchestrator, and Producer in the South Korean music industry.
I have also known as 'Kevinology', which is my musical name! I hope we can share lots of things here!
I didn't know there was such an AMAZING forum like this! I wish I'd known earlier lol
Recently I've been practicing some jazz standards; I tested it with my DI Boxes.
I uploaded it on my notion, you can check it out.

DI Box & Plug-in Shootout

I hope you like it! It gonna update as soon as I got new DI or Plug-in :)

Can't tell how much I appreciate the administrator for making this website! See you around!

HI, interesting and thanks for sharing the WAV files.
You have a summary evaluation as which DI you prefer?

The DI-20 and Samson are often the ones I get handed at gigs (not a big fan of the Behringer), but I used to have the Radial which was great, but a expert comparison would be very useful as to how they sound different.

And of course welcome to the forum!
Nice setup BTW :-)

Thx for ur kind words :) I would say SC702CT! I think It's perfect for Nord Grand.
TBH, If it's more than a certain quality of gears, I think it's a difference in taste, not bad and good.
Oh, BTW, I have a question about the gears you mentioned, except Radial, is it okay with the noise issue? Behringer and Samson were quite noisy for me.

Hello and have a nice day :) as a sound engineer i fully recommend radial jdi stereo for keyboards i have tested almost all the expensive di boxes.. and for active sources like keyboards the best is passive and specially the radial jdi which has jensen transformers

Hello, thx for ur suggestion! JDI is definitely my favorite, too. if i use other keys like yamaha or roland, I could use JDI Duplex but I think SC702CT is way more compatible with Nord Grand. What do u think about that? :)

I havent tested this one my friend.. i havent seen it at all in my country… here in europe radial , klark teknik , bss , behringer , rupert neve designs , palmer, and some more are the very popular ones..

I selected the jdi after many a/b tests with rupert neve designs rndi , bss ar 133, klark teknik dn 100, radial j48, some behringer ones which i didnt like at all ,

By the way i have to my small rental sound and light company 2x j48 stereo, 3x jdi stereo and 1 jdi duplex stereo plus many dn100 bss ar 133 and some rndi…

After di boxes the best sound result for me was when i plugged my nord grand to my ams neve 1073 dpx stereo pre amp..

Just 1 of the best pre amp huge high end and punchy sound one of the best ever with the faster signal response i ever felt in my hands and even when i sing because i use it mainly for my microphone

The next thing i wana try someday is a high end tube pre amp like manley core.. i would love to try nord at a manley.. to listen the tube sound result and sound behaviour of the instrument

Thank you for the interesting page. What is uregntly needed is concrete and *quantitative* evidence of why one model is claimed to be better than other. Claiming that this brand is great and that other is awful has to be backed by some proof. I suspect that if there are some differences, they might not be significant sound-wise (but if there were, it would be very useful to know). Blinded tests should be good for this sort of comparisons, too, but curiously I have not been able to find any...
I had a quick look at some of the files in audacity. There are differences in the gains between recordings, yet the power spectra look practically identical, other than some low <10Hz frequency which would be outside the hearing range anyway. It would be useful to have different recorded sources as well (like white and pink noise) to really understand what is the response of the different setups.

Neve 1073! Thats one of my favorite, too! I'm using Blacklion 173 (reproduced from Neve 1073) and It has a more warm timbre than 1073. I'm so loving both of them.
BTW, I didn't include preamps cuz its comparison about DI, not preamp. I think I should compare my preamps next time :)
let me upload the file of JDI DUPLEX tmrw! plz check it!

Hi, it's really good to see you! thx for your kind words! XD
I've done a phrase invert test with them also, there were huge differences in EQ. as I mentioned, I think it's a difference in taste, not bad and good. :)
I will prepare quantified or visualized data when I feel free. Thank you for being interesting in my page.
