Hi, short question: Does the nord stage 3 transmit aftertouch over midi?
I would like to trigger the Hydrasynth via midi with my Nordstage3. Unfortunately I can't get the aftertouch from Nord Stage to control the Hydrasynth aftertouch. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for input

The Hydrasynth has single key (polyphonic) AT, doesn't it? The Stage only has global (monophonic) AT. Which is not the same.
You would a) have to get the Stage's AT CC transmitted to the Hydrasynth's and b) resign from getting polyphonic AT.
Or in other words: The Stage isn't able to deal with polyphonic aftertouch which means you won't be able to control the full capabilities of the Hydrasynth from the Stage.

The poly AT is one of the outstanding features of the Hydrasynth. As far as I know it is currently pretty much the only synth that has this feature. In conjunction with the ribbon control you will only get everything out of it by using it´s own frontend.
Check the manual, maybe you can make the Hydrasynth "understand" the standard monophonic (channel)-AT, apply it to the poly AT and at least make it work that way. But you have to realize it can only effect all notes played and not individually like it is supposed to be. Might sound okay, might also not, depends on how sounds have been programmed to act.

Re: Nord Stage 3 : Transmit Aftertouch?
Hi spicki,
the thing is, as much as I understand from aftertouch, it is a controller, a modulator, let me call it a sender, and not a sound or an effect or any other source which you could modulate in the sense that you influence and change it.
What does the aftertouch at your Hydrasynth do? What do you influence with it? Once you‘ve found this I would guess that, as long as the MIDI channels are set accordingly, you should be able to achieve the same with a MIDI-linked Stage. Only limitation may be monophonic instead of poly.
Cheers

The only way this would work is if the Hydra Synth has MIDI support Mono to Poly Aftertouch, or you'd need an external processor to route the mono-Nord AT to every poly-note Hydrasynth AT input.
