Problem controling vst's via midi with the stage

Post by zahush76 »

Hi everyone!

I have a nord stage classic (and a polyevolver) and recently have bought a pc with cubase and a bunch of vst's (komplete 7, omnisphere, trilian etc.).
I'm trying to use the nord stage as a controller. I connected a midi cable from my midi out into the soundcard's midi in (soundcard being "impact twin" by tc electronic). I made a special patch where only the extern section is open, and only panel a is active.
I open a vst in cubase and start playing the keyboard. What i get is double sound.
The vst shows this graphically as well. In kontakt player, for example, you can see how many voices are played at any given moment. And when i press one key on the nord stage - the kontakt indicates that there are two notes being played. This is the same for all the other vst's.
Tried controlling the vst's with the polyevolver - and no problem. But i still want the nord stage as a controller because of the key action.

Any ideas about what am i doing wrong?

Thanks,
Zahush

Ramon is right!
alternative set the panel channels to OFF and control midi channels per PROGRAM.

toro.larsson,
But when you turn off the panels, you control only by the Extern section using any channel? And how do you use split nord stage sounds with extern VST or hardware?

hi Rodaguilera.
if you set a value for "MIDI Panel A/B Channel" (in the MIDI menu), you will send all kinds of CC messages to your midi connected slave. if you want this, then set a value between 1 and 16 here. only remember that you can't prevent the NS from sending CC messages. so for all controllers you don't want to affect your midi connected device, you'll have to manually deactivate those messages from being recieved in your sound module/VST.

if you set "MIDI PAnel A/B Channel" to "OFF" the NS sends no CCs from the knobs and buttons at all. except for the pitch bend stick and the sustain pedal.
(however the PB stick and the sustain pedal can be activated/deactivated manually in every instrument section, including the EXTERNAL SECTION.)

in the EXTERN MENU you set external midi channels for each of the two PANELs. this is done per PROGRAM. just enter the EXTERN MENU and look for "Extern MIDI A/B Channel". in the EXTERN MENU you can also activate the other available midi controllers: after touch, mod.wheel and control pedal.

do you understand the difference?

this is done in the same way as splitting only the internal sounds on the NS. activate the desired sections (EXTERNAL section included), select the number of keyboard zones and set their split points.

Thanks Larsson,
Now it became clear to me. Before I left the Panel A on channel 1 and channel 14 on Extern, so when i configured in softsynth
midi input notes to Any, I received notes in duplicate, because NS was sending 2 channels info. Now it worked perfectly as i wished, thank you.
