Can I load *.nsmp samples with the Nord Piano 4 ?

Post by Projet Xion »

Hi all,

I will buy soon a NP4 and was wondering if it's possible to load samples (*.nsmp files) with this keyboard.
If it's possible, how to transform the sample into a real patch / preset ?
I suppose that the edition is limited with a NP 4 but if I could for example have the Van Halen "Jump" sound it would be great !

https://www.nordkeyboards.com/products/nord-piano-4

"Sample Synth
Greatly expanded Polyphony NEW
512 MB Memory for Nord Sample Library 3.0 NEW
Dedicated Sample Synth section with Attack, Decay/Release and dynamic controls"

...and older .nsmp formats are automatically converted by Nord Sound Manager, the rest is on NP4 manual.

A word like "patch" or "preset" does not exist in the Nord world. They call it program. Within a program, you store the settings of both the piano, the synth and the effects engine. So you first download (or do they call it upload?) a sample to the Nord from your computer, then on your instrument load it into the synth engine and store the program. That's it. Easy job.

Hi all,

Just received my Nord piano 4 and I'm trying to load a *. nsmp file in Sample editor 3.0 with no success.
I can import wav files but not nsmp.
Maybe the Nord sample editor 3.0 is not compatible yet with the NP4? On the Nord software page I can see this :
"Support for Nord Electro 6, Nord Grand and Nord Piano 4 to be announced"

Anyone tested it with a NP4?

You cannot edit existing .nsmp files with NSE, you can only create new ones from your own .wav or upload to NP4 existing ones (which you can also do using Nord Sound Manager, I'd say use this actually for existing .nsmp)

As for samples :
* Nord Sample Editor software converts WAV to nsmp or nsmp3.
* Nord Sample Manager software lets up upload (or download) nsmp to all Nords and nsmp3 to compatible-models.

Conversion nsmp3 to nsmp is not (yet, hopefully :) ) possible.
Conversion nsmp/nsmp3 to WAV or any audio format is not possible.

Conversion nsmp/nsmp3 to WAV or any audio format is not possible
Only if you record your nord and save as wav.

That's "resampling", not "conversion" and you lose the original assignment keys and loop points, if present, in the process (you have to rebuild then and to have them exactly the same you will have to analyze and cut the sampled wave properly)
