Stage classic - possible with OS downgrade?
Hi,
Does anyone know if it's possible to downgrade OS 4.xx and 5.xx to OS 3.12? The reason I ask: I'm playing on a hired Stage classic this weekend, and don't know which OS it's got. I have a copy of the OS 3.12 installer/updater, and I have a backup of my sounds/programs. So has anybody done this with success? Or is it better to update my own Stage to newest OS (5.xx), take a new backup and bring this to the hired instrument?
Appreciate your quick response!
Dax

Re: Stage classic - possible with OS downgrade?
hi Dax!
my suggestion is: don't try to downgrade the OS. not sure what can happen if you try, but i can't see any reason for doing this.
the OS updates fixes bugs and brings new features and approvments into the Stage. it has nothing to do with the piano samples as far as i know. you can still use the oldest samples without issues. (but with an old OS you wont be able to load samples from the piano library v5)
your PROGRAMs shouldn't be depending on the OS version either, so i don't see you'll need to do another backup of them?
but if you want to be sure, you should do one anyway before upgrading. (it's NEVER wrong doing that)
what i don't know is whether the synth sections wavetable has changed during the OS history? maybe someone else can fill in the blanks here...
hope this helps.

Thanks Toro,
this helped a lot. Are you sure that I don't need to upgrade my piano samples? I currently use the .nsp format, not the new one....

Ooooohhhhh! :-O
maybe i responded a little bit too quickly....
the oldest piano samples for download from nordkeyboards, com are version 4, which mean you'll need to run OS v4.0 or later.
you are now running on v3.x, right?...
i suggest you contact Clavia support on this one! unless someone else around this forum knows for sure??
i don't dare to say.
sorry man! :-(

Re: Stage classic - possible with OS downgrade?
Ok,
I have on my Mac a complete backup including the v.3 pianos, so I just wondered if the new OS 5 is OK with them, or will force me to upgrade the piano sounds...

Re: Stage classic - possible with OS downgrade?
yeah i understand your question.
but if the oldest samples aren't available from nordkeyboards.com maybe they can't be used with OS 4.x and later...?
that's why i think you should contact Clavia.
please report back what they said.

Re: Stage classic - possible with OS downgrade?
Hi Dax.
I actually can't see any reason why not to upgrade everything :-)
The new OS fixes a lot of little bugs , the new acoustic pianos , electric pianos , wurly , el grand.... effects... everything just SOUNDS BETTER :-)
If you don't want to "risk" or you don't have the time to load and try all the new pianos , you can just load the..."latest" kind of piano you used before. (latest yamaha or stainway ecc...).
the small version of new pianos will let you load , I think , the amount of sounds you'll need on your NS classic.
the programs will sound the same (check this , put in every upgrade I did on my ns ex, I had nothing different on my programs)
the important thing you have to do , after upgrade and download new sounds , is to CHECK ALL PROGRAMS WITH PIANO SOUNDS , becouse , for example , if you now use 2 el piano types ,and before you use a program with "el piano 3", you will find numer 3 blinking 'couse ns doesn't find the sound , you put 1 or 2 , save , and everything is done!!!
really , even on the same el piano type or acoustic piano type , you'll find much difference in sound quality on version 5 than in version 3!!
IMHO you should upgrade everything !!! clavia has a great policy to offer support even for so called "old" models , you can load same pianos of latest models , maybe not the xl versions becouse of memory , but even small or medium piano versions sounds great!!!

Re: Stage classic - possible with OS downgrade?
depending on the OS you used to save your presets, you'll have to adjust some volume parameters... IIRC the most obvious was the leslie overdrive, that changed quite a bit in an OS update.
