New Nord Piano 2,, keybed question..

Hello Guys,

Im new to piano playing i played both the Roland RD300NX, and the old Nord Piano 1.... I like the sounds more from the Nord Piano,, to be honest i love the sound... Also the effects are better, and the electric pianos are aswell. When i played the Nord Piano i was concerned about the noise the keybed made,, to me it was REALLY hard compared to the Roland keybed....

I don't know iff it will get annoying over time... I never had a chance to play the new Nord Piano 2,,, I'm saving money for that one... Has anyone had a chance to play this board and did they improve the key surface??, or demped the noise more? I think its really sh%t to say at least for such a pricey instrument they couldn't do a better job on the key surface, i don't mind iff its every feel or plastic but at least it should sound soft and not like ur smacking a electronic drum set...

Thoughts are welcome,, i like honest people...

Well, I have quite similar history with Nords. As a long time Roland user, keybed noise was the only thing which was keeping me NOT to buy Nord. In fact one time I already brought Nord Stage (1) to home but then I realized how noisy it was and I returned it back (I didn't notice its noisiness at noisy music shop). Then I needed to pass few years to retry (at that moment the new) Nord Piano. This NP, which I still have, did feel much better than its predecessors (NS) and it was also little more quiet. So I decided to tolerate this noisiness and I haven't regret it. Some time ago I bought NS2 (76) for gigging and it seems to be little more noisy than NP, but on stage it's not any kind of problem. In fact this noisiness is annoying for home (or studio) use.

I think this noisiness is something that must be accepted (or not). I also believe that your brain will adapt itself to "not hearing" it that much. If you're used to have very quiet keybed (Rolands are normally good in this respect), first this noisiness is disturbing but in time you won't notice it anymore. Of course you have to have enough volume with you sound system to cover this keybed noise.

This is not to say, that we have really accept this noisiness from Clavia. In fact we had wishes (read wishlist thread) for new NP2, but unfortunately none of them came true. One and perhaps the most important wish has been improving its touch and I would add to that also more quiet keybed. Let's hope it'll happen in future...

Keybed has been improved w.r.t. the action. It's now the same as the Stage 2.

I haven't had chance to play the NP2 yet but I would be surprised if it's now the "same as the Stage 2". The Stage 2 always felt different from the NP1 because the action has to incorporate the aftertouch sensors in the same keybed. Hence, the NS2 action feels shallower and somewhat softer on landing than the NP1. Until my hands tell me otherwise, I'd expect the NP2 action to feel identical to v1.
