Thank you very much for the information. No, I didn't realise it was from the D50!
Are you based in North or South Wales, please?
Cheers,
Paul

Not sure if you remember me from a few years back on here?
What do you think of the two Nord library brass sounds, please? Do you know if they are the ones on the instrument as per shipped?
Paul

Re: The Best Synth Brass
Hi MJL,
Yes, I do remember your nick from the days of yore...you left and then returned, a Phoenix? Welcome back!
Regarding the factory load of your NE6 (assuming that's what you're asking about), Nord publishes the lists of Piano and Samples of the original factory load under a sublink on the NE6 Downloads page on their website. I've just scanned the list and do not see these two particular samples listed there, but obviously they can be loaded.
My experience on things like brasses (and saxes, flutes, strings, etc.) has been that synth sounds are cool, but lack authenticity, while sampled sounds have authenticity, but can feel lifeless. When the two are layered together everything just sparkles. So, I encourage experimentation along those lines where possible. On your NE6 you'll need to choose between one of the other, but you should perhaps audition the NL2X synth samples -- you may find something that you like.
Speaking generally, I prefer to think of the factory loads simply as starting points. How's this for a metaphor: there's someone in the kitchen preparing a buffet table of ALL kinds of food. Lots of very different people with very different tastes are coming to this party, so the chef tries to include a WIDE variety in the hopes that everyone will find something they like. But when I take my Nord (buffet table) home, I no longer care about pleasing anyone else, only me. I don't eat mushrooms, broccoli or cauliflower and I don't want them on my table. The oboe sounds sweet, but I have no immediate use for it, so it's got to go. If I ever need in future, I'll know where I can go to get it back again. That's the sweet part of the Nord system. Make it what YOU want it to be, to serve YOUR musical needs and wants. Don't feel chained to the factory load.
As far as what I think of those particular sounds...better that you should let your ears be your guide. You're the best judge of that.
Bless, Pablo

I love that analogy, that's pure genius. I completely agree.pablomastodon wrote:Hi MJL,

I've backed up my rigs for factory data, then completely wiped in the past to create custom setups for different jobs, that's the best thing about nord hardware, you can just start from scratch, that's part of the challenge, excitement and creativity, unlike Roland, Korg and others who's factory media is within ROM and cannot be edited unless to "user".

Maybe we could meet up sometime to trade ideas? I would be happy to drive to you if it's not too far. You are obviously a Nord expert!
I studied in Leeds on the Jazz course. Loved West Yorks!
Cheers,
Paul

Ha ha, yes that was me!
I have changed my avatar (as you can see) this time round. It is now the CD art from 'Miles On The Corner'. I have put on too much weight since that original upload!
Last year I closed down about 20 forums which I just was not frequenting. Because I sold my Stage Classic I shut this down, but unwittingly did not realise all of my posts would no longer be associated to me. Although they will show up in a 'guest' search, apparently.
Had I have known I would purchase an 'Electro 6D' 18 months later then I would have kept this account open.
Best,
Paul
