Mellow Upright too muffled maybe!
I always loved felt pianos, i like very much the mellow uprght piano on my headphones, but in live experience it becomes too much soft and muffled. I think if nord had put a little more bright high velocity layers it would be a much more versatile upright piano.
For a mellow tone i rather use the Royal with some EQ changes.
What do you guys think?

What do I think? I think this all depends on your amplification live, and on the kind of music you are performing.
If you think the Bosie Mellow is too muffled in your situation you might also try the Queen's (another Boesendorfer), or the Amber, with suitable EQ.
Edit, PS: If you also look into Grand pianos, the third Boesendorfer in the Nord Piano Library, i.e. the Imperial, might be a safe bet for a dark and mellow tone. I love it (but it is - and sounds like - a grand, not an upright).

The mellow upright is my favourite piano for bar / lounge music independent from playing alone or with a jazz trio. To me it is the most realistic piano sample in the whole library. But - I tweak the Hi Eq by + 3 dB and the Lo Eq by - 3dB to be honest.

Sounds pretty good to me when Rai plays it. So much depends on context, what else is going on sonically.

You use it in XL or Large?Eumel wrote:The mellow upright is my favourite piano for bar / lounge music independent from playing alone or with a jazz trio. To me it is the most realistic piano sample in the whole library. But - I tweak the Hi Eq by + 3 dB and the Lo Eq by - 3dB to be honest.

If you're willing to switch to a grand piano sound, why not the Velvet? It's my second-best liked piano, and it's soft but not muffled: when played at higher velocities (and maybe with a bit of EQ) it can ring and bark as well.lucascastro wrote:For a mellow tone i rather use the Royal with some EQ changes.

I use it in Large. The Velvet Grand by the way would also sound nice, but it‘s decay is way to fast (not natural imho), but this was discussed already in a former thread.lucascastro wrote:You use it in XL or Large?Eumel wrote:The mellow upright is my favourite piano for bar / lounge music independent from playing alone or with a jazz trio. Re: Mellow Upright too muffled maybe!
I LOVE the mellow piano, but it's definitely too dark for me. All I do it use the EQ to boost the highs a tad, pull down the lows, and boost the upper mids. Set the mid freq to 5-8k and then boost the mids a bit there to add some air. With this, the mellow piano is really amazing for me, very expressive.
