Sample Editor - Fine Tuning

Post by Schorsch »

Hi,

I have started working with the Sample Editor to create samples from my Motif XF, it works quite well but I am still not fully satisfied with the loops of the samples. They still have a kind of pulsating effect in the loop section which I don't know how to eliminate.

Attached please find one of the projects I did including the project file, the individual wave files and the final sample I created.

I wonder if someone with deeper knowlegde of the Sample Editor and more experienced in creating samples could look into the project and let me know how to make this better?

Not an answer to your question, but I see that you recorded every note in a seperate wav file. Is that on purpose? Because you don't have to do that.
If you play the notes and record them in one big wav file, the sample editor will recognize the notes and assign them.

Looping is an art, particularly for complex sounds. You need to build your skills in analyzing the waveform and choose the best length and start/stop points. Automatic looping seldom works well alone.

Well - not really on purpose. The wav files in the attachement have not been recorede by me, these are in fact the original wav files from the Motif XF voice which I exported using the Melas Wave Editor for the Motif (works with all non-factory build-in sounds), and they are available as individual wav files.

Whenever I can't (or do not want to) extract the original Motif wav files I am using SampleRobot to record other sounds, and this software also generates individual wav files for each sampled note.

Hi Max, agree and this is why I don't use automatic looping, I am setting the loops individually for each wav file the sample shall be made of. What I am looking for is a bit more depth information about this from other users experience about how to identify the best length and start/stop points. I'm pretty sure that I will get there by myself sooner or later, but learning from others may speed up the process ;)

Sure Scorsch, I just wanted to tell you that is not an easy task, so a problem we all face when trying to loop samples; I have no fixed rule, but if there is som low frequency amplitude modulation I try to loop on the minimum of that (and capture at least one full modulation cycle)
