A true Librarian for the Mac/PC would be great

I currently use a Nord Stage 3 and a Nord Piano 2.

I would love to have all of my patches / samples saved in a Library on the computer.
Then I could save every patch that I made and download everything from the forums and drag them into the manager.

Have you ever accidentally deleted a patch at a gig or rehearsal -hoping to get it back from your computer?
You can't! As soon as you sink the Stage, the Mac reads the current patches.

Of course you can. Suppose you accidentally overwrite program "Super Funk" with another program "Funked Up" on your instrument, but have a spare copy of Super Funk on your computer. Connect via USB to computer running Nord Sound Manager, wait until sync is done, locate the Funked Up program location, delete it, then drag 'n drop your computer copy of Super Funk to the empty location. Done deal. Note that you must have ORGANIZE engaged in NSM in order to see the empty location on your computer screen. Using the SOUND DOWNLOAD function will accomplish the same thing, but simpler to use drag 'n drop method.

I play in a few different types of cover bands, so I do have a number of different programs that I use.
Mostly in Banks A and B.
I did not have them individually backed up on my computer. I gather sounds all different ways (like everyone) - I download and tweak, combine, start from scratch. I never thought to save them on the computer.
Should I upload each category to folders on my Mac?

Hey Stringtapper,

I typically use the Sound Manager to move programs around, rename things, duplicate, create song lists.
I find it easier that navigating on the Nord (for these functions)

In the OLDEN days - I would use software like Unisyn and Sound Quest and have 1000's of patches for my D-50 - although the D-50 could only store so many in it's... Ram?

Hi Nordmutt2,

yes, since the NSM is not a full featured librarian such as the "oldies/goldies you mentioned", the best thing to do is to organize your Programs,Bundles, Samples in a proper folder structure (on your computers storage, whatever it is, disk or USB flash memory or...) so that it will be easy for you to Download/Upload them to your Nord keyboards as needed.

I have a Nord folder on one of my external hard drives that has folders for everything including backups, sample files downloaded from Nord and elsewhere, manuals, and all of the different versions/updates of the Nord OS and the Sound Manager.

This stuff takes up virtually no space compared to what I’m used to with software sample libraries, so it’s a no-brainer to just keep it all.

The only concern I have with Nord's way of doing things is - what if your board takes a dump on a gig? If you're not lugging around your computer, you're SOL. It would be nice to get a backup onto a thumb drive for emergencies.

USB is a Host-Client relationship protocol. Thumb drives are client devices. Client devices require host to function. Nords are not Host devices; they are also client devices.

It is totally possible to get a backup onto a thumb drive, but the thumb drive will need a host device to transfer that data to the Nord.

As Pablo says, but there is a relatively cheap alternative, just get one of those inexpensive Chinese Win10 7" tablets (with at least 1 USB port of course) and you have a portable solution to run NSM (and more).
