Using a tablet or iPad for additional sounds

Hi - is it true that I could get some hardware to midi up my tablet or iPad to my stage 3 and get some additional sounds? I'm thinking the types of stuff the nord is not the best at, such as rock horns. I see Korg has a mobile sound module and a midi key that can connect to the board and it has 1/4 inch outputs. Would I have to route the outputs directly to the amp system, or can I use the EXT section somehow?

All that being said , is there what android and iOS tablet app/hardware interfaces are recommended? thx

With the iPad you need no interface, just the Apple Lightning to USB adapter and a standard USB device cable, same you use for printers; then just connect the iPad phones jack to the Monitor in of the NS3 and it will be mixed with both Headphone and 1/2 outputs.

For Android you might need a so-called OTG cable (On The Go).
It is used for peripherals that connect to a host.

Don't know if *every* device needs it.

For my no-name tablet with Android I can use BandHelper to send Program-changes that way.

For Android you might need a so-called OTG cable (On The Go). ... For my no-name tablet with Android I can use BandHelper to send Program-changes that way.

Android is generally not very suitable for the task at hand. Android and iOS are both fine for sending MIDI data TO the Nord (i.e. for Program Changes), but if you want to use the Nord's EXT section to add additional sounds to the Nord, iOS is a good platform for that, Android is not.

A Windows tablet could also work well.

I'm not too thrilled to play horn parts with my S3-88, so I use a Samson 49 key controller connected to my iPad with a Korg PlugKey and run the audio out into the monitor in jack on the S3. I use Crudbyte Heavy Brass as the horns sound source on the iPad.

So, Crudbyte Heavy Brass are better than the ones in the Nord? Any comparison with the Roland Brass in an XV5080? I'm still wondering if I should try to use my ipad for extra sounds....I ask him quite a lot with Bandhelper and program changes so, not sure the Ioad could handle it....it's a 10 years old Ipad....

Roland brass in an XV5080 would be a small 20-year old sample, so I would expect as good or better could easily be achieved from numerous iPad apps. Though if you had the optional brass or orchestral SRX cards in your XV5080, you might need to be more selective to exceed that.

Yeah, they're good and better than the Nord stock pop brass I think. Articulations aren't that plentiful in the Nord patches either. Heavy Brass has a lot of useful articulations. Not as many as say NI Session Horns Pro, however nowhere close to the cost and no laptop required.
The only thing I don't like, or hopefully just not realized yet is how to control those articulations with keyboard controllers-CC#'s. I can only change articulations by selecting it on the iPad or with key pressure. There's no info on their site how to assign any of the articulations to CC#'s. But then, neither can the Nord brass sounds (that I've found).

Imhave the orchestral and Brass SRX cards, yes, so, I'm always a bit surprised when I found great samples that play very well in a live session from a Rompler that is super old, you're right....And I'm trying to keep,the'ipad focused on programs changes....

Going back to the original question, have a look at iConnectivity devices. I’ve used an audio4+ live with an iPad before I got my NS3C. It’s a useful device to have around but the setting up and routing is hard to get your head around and hard to remember a few weeks later.
