No longer constant for me, my friend. That was my point - Nord products are marketed and priced partially on the promise of their ever-updating libraries.

When those updates become unusable, three years after a purchase is made, it renders that promise a false one. To those who pointed out that I bought the Electro 4 at the end of its life, well, it was still being offered at retail shops for retail prices. I didn't buy a used, closeout or B-stock Electro 4. I bought it new, from a Clavia dealer.

Many of us have been asking for years for a decent EP update. Nord has finally provided one (I think - I can't try it myself). But for a large percentage of those many of us - here it finally is, but if you want it, buy a new Nord.

The access is still free, so it's still constant, even for you. You can still access the huge variety of other bonus content they generated both before and since your models were released/sold.

I don't think Nord or anybody else suggests you'll always get updates forever that apply for every product in their model history. They certainly don't advertise that they will always support your model in all future updates. They advertise that their updates will always be free. That's it.

And the updates are always free. But they aren't always relevant to every model, for obvious reasons both technical and effort-based. The software clearly changed radically when they introduced seamless transitions, and a number of other under-the-hood code changes probably resulted in a re-architecture of much of the code that supports the filters. Complaining that they don't provide support for discontinued models (there's a reason they are called "discontinued" BTW) is pretty senseless. Nord does far more than most companies to support older hardware, and that's even more impressive given the small team they have. It costs them far less to support models which have the code already in place with minimal changes for new features than it does to apply those code changes further back in the model line, especially if the chips, DSP engines, etc. physically changed it may be next to impossible, or equal to a complete redesign fundamentally.

What you're expecting is irrational and they certainly don't owe it to you or anyone else, nor have you been misled, nor are they deliberately holding back features from you in order to spur upgrades. Technology changes, supporting the past has a cost. That cost does not generate revenue. That they do it at all defies common market sense and shows huge respect for their customers and further justifies the cost of their excellent hardware and business practices.

Well, „buy a three-year old used Electro or a seven-year-old used Nord Stage“ is really the proposition.

I just sold my Stage 2 after five years, and while it was in transit, it was announced that the board would become more valuable musically due to the addition of these pianos.

That’s pretty cool.

Sorry Gambold but your attitude is absolutely irrational, this is a typical behaviour of “the more one gets for free the more demanding he becomes”. Nord never promised an ever-updating free library service for any product which they have ever released in history. Just start thinking about technical progress over the decades and increased potential for new technologies and solutions, and you will understand that you expect something completely impossible. It’s like you drive a 30 year old Jaguar and complain why it cannot load the latest software update which includes internet access, sat nav, touch screen operation and others ... please accept that new technologies open chances but also close some doors for the older ones in terms of additional functions and services. Your products are still good to run the majority of what Nord is constantly offering for free. If you don’t like it then go and sell your Nord gear, buy something from another vendor and be surprised about their “outstanding services”

Yeah, it's just like that. Who knew.
Snark is so much easier than a reasoned counter-argument.

Would you like to explain to us your reasoning behind thinking that people are getting stiffed by not getting updates for a flagship technology product that is more than seven years old, or a downmarket product that is more than three and a half years old?
