NL2X, Slots and MIDI

Hi all,

I'm using my NL2X with Ableton.
I have set one different midi channel per slot.
Slot A = Channel 1 / Slot B = Ch 2, Slot C = Ch 3 and Slot D = (you guessed it!) Ch 4.

According to the manual

I have a program that layers Slots B, C and D.
Sending my message from Ableton on Midi Channel 2 should play all three slots, if I read the manual correctly.
It only plays Slot B.
I've tried different combinations and channels but was never able to have more than one slot play at a time.

I know there are work arounds (duplicating the sending channels in Ableton to have the same message sent three times, each to a different midi channel; setting all slots to the same midi channel... ) but I don't want to go those roads.

I'd like to understand what I'm doing wrong here.

My understanding is that what they called the leftmost in a layer is the channel A, so, midi 1 for you and ch 2,3 and 4 as well? but I never used my stage 2x with a computer so, always live use, I'm not the most knowledgeable guy on this one...

Just to avoid confusion, it's Nord Lead, not Stage. I suppose that's what you meant as well.

I tried activating slots A, B and C and sending notes on Midi channel 1. Only slot A is playing. Not A+B+C as I understand from the manual that it should.

Yes, I wanted to say that, NL2X... Is it how it works when you are in performance mode only? Just trying to find the answer, as Imsay, I never used it with a DAW but realized recently that when I'm in ore formate mode, global midi being on my channel 3 (3rd keys that I have, Stage being the first, then midi ch 1, D50, channel 2...etc...), the program change work and switch thoerfomace number AND the performance Midi to control another keyboards/module stays on the right channle like Channel 6. Before I was always putting the Slot A to midi 3 for prog am change then, switching it to 6, so...you discover stuff every day....
Is the 3 slots play when you use the keyboard? I mean, you are in ch 1 on slot A, slot B ch 2, Slot C channel 3 but you play the internal keyboard after having selected the 3 slots to play, it work? But when you send 3 different tracks form your Daw on ch1, ch2 and ch3, you hear only Ch 1/Slot A right? And you are in performance mode?

The NL keyboard triggers all the activated slots as it should.
Whether I'm in Performance mode or not makes no difference. Only one channel/slot plays when sending notes from the DAW.
And in fact, it plays the slot corresponding to the midi channel whether this slot is activated or not.
So if my program uses B+C+D but I'm sending notes on Channel 1, it will play what's on Slot A.(Which seems normal looking at the manual)
Playing Channel 2 will only play slot B...

Do you sometimes play your NL with from another keyboard?

Hi Ludovic, I don't own a NL2/2x but I was curious about this problem of yours and in the manual I see an interesting point that may be the cause of the behavior you are seeing (which, you are right, is not in line with what the part of manual you have attached says)

Note that the Global MIDI Channel should NOT be set to the same as any of the Slot’s MIDI Channels to avoid conflicts.

Have you tried to check/change the Global MIDI Channel?

Yes, I play it from my Stage 2 or D50 (the two keyboards that are under the NL2X), with layers of 2/3 and 4 different sounds on the 4 slots and it works like a charm....In Performace mode I just make sure the midi channel on the "master" is the same as slot A and I'm good.
In non performance mode, it's the same, just making sure that Slot A is the same midi channel as the "Master"...Same thing, works great....
Do I have tried to control Slot A&B on one midi channel and Slot C&D on another midi channel using its split ability and to see if I could use two masters att He same time? No,'sorry, if I have the time, I will try...This way could,be a good way to be close to,your issue, Ableton live controlling different S slot on different midi channels...Did you try it this way by the way?
