Can I 'send' a patch to another midi kbd from NE3?

Post by pint6x »

Hi all,

I have an Electro 3 plus a Studiologic Sledge synth.

Using a standard MIDI lead, I can play both keyboards from the Nord, so can add strings or something from the synth to add weight to whatever sound the NE3 is making.

What I'm wondering if I can do is 'send' a piano patch from Nord to synth so that I can, for example, play organ on the Nord and play a Nord piano sound on the synth simultaneously.

If this is possible, what do I need to do? I'm certainly no midi expert, so any help much appreciated.

Cheers - Philip

Hi, unfortunately NE3 is monotimbral so you cannot do that. With NE5 or 6 you could instead.

Yeah - thought that might be the case - oh well - need to find a piano sound for the synth.

Just to be sure: MIDI is usually not meant to transfer sounds - neither final sound nor raw samples. What you primarily do is sending commands to the internal sound generators (be it an instrument or a computer). So what you would do with a NE5/6 would be controlling its built-in piano engine from remote.

There is no way to transfer Nord piano samples to another brand's sound engine - unless you record everything and load it onto that instrument which wouldn't probably result in something very effective.
