NE5 beginner

Post by emmanuelstage3 »

Hello I m french, I have a beautifful NE5D73!
I am very happy, but I have some problems!
Can you help me?

1/ How to use pitch bend or solution of that?
2/ How to use two Samples sounds in the same time split or not split? (for exemple String on the left and lead on the right?)
3/ How to use to transpose +7?
4/ How to use when you program different sound for one song and you change during to play? Because when I touch de A to B for exemple the sound stop
5/ How to use sound manager to heart the new sample before to entrance in the keyboard?

Thanks a lot and Happy New Year

1. the NE5 is not a synth there is no pitch bend. Its possible it might respond to pitch control from a midi controller or external keyboard.
2. There is no provision for 2 samples at the same time. Its one organ, one piano, and one sample engine and only two can be active at one time.
3. What does transpose +7 mean? Are you asking about 7 semitones or 7 octaves?
4. Yes there is a gap in sound when you change programs. The NE5 does not have seamless transitions.

regarding #5:
There is no way to hear what a sample will sound like via Nord Sound Manager: you have to load the sample onto your Nord keyboard, and play it there.
This is why most people include an mp3 file when they post a user-created sample here on the Nord forum,
and why Nord includes mp3 recordings of most of their samples that they provide on the official Nord web site.

Picking up from what cgrafx said...

1. Although there's no pitch bend on the Electro itself, there are some possible solutions.

...One is using a pedal like the Behringer US600, either by itself (for a fixed amount of bend that you program in for whenever you depress the pedal), or in conjunction with an additional pedal that allows you to control the bend manually as you play (see thread at http://www.norduserforum.com/nord-elect ... t3929.html )

...Also, if you're using the Nord in conjunction with another keyboard, and *that* keyboard has a pitch wheel, you can use that pitch wheel to bend pitch on the Nord (as of software version 1.20, "Part Upper now supports MIDI Pitch Bend from external keyboard, when in MIDI Split mode. ") This same functionality should allow you to bend pitch from, for example, an iPhone/iPad running an app that sends MIDI pitch bend from a touchscreen control.

For built-in pitch control, that's a feature that's added in the Nord Stage series.

2. Splitting or layering two (non-piano) sample sounds is again a feature that's added in the Stage (2 and above), you can't do it on an Electro. Though you can split/layer an additional sound from an external device (again, possibly an iPhone/iPad, or some other synth, some of which are quite small, like the Roland Boutique series). For example, see p. 14 of the manual, "Nord Electro 5 sending MIdI on Part Upper in KB split mode."

3. As you have presumably seen, transpose goes up to +6 semitones (say, C to F#). To go to +7 (C to G), you'd go down to -5 semitones, and then use octave shift to get it in the range where you want it.

4. Yes, the Electro cuts out one sound when you change to another. The ability to change sounds "seamlessly" is again a feature you get in the Stage (as of the Nord Stage 3).

5. You can't hear Nord Samples without loading them into your Nord.

For #2, well, you could create your own nsmp files with the sample editor based on your own sampled WAV files and assign them to different keys.
