"Panic" function CC number?
Is there a CC number for the "panic" function of the Stage 3?
Can't find in the sheet at the end of the manual...
Thanks

Re: "Panic" function CC number?
There is no MIDI CC associated to that action (neither in the MIDI standard nor in any keyboard I have used so far across the years), being conceived as a manual reset.
The MIDI Standard CCs include stuff like "All Notes Off" (#123) or "Reset All Controllers" (#121) instead, which are in some cases issued as a result of a Panic trigger (depending on the implementation), but I am not sure NS3 receives/handles them, if tehy are not listed in the manual I'd say it doesn't, but you can try.

Thanks. Well "all notes off" would be pretty close I'd say. Would this command kill any hung note?

That's what it is supposed to do, according to the MIDI standard (see MIDI 1.0 detailed specifications docs, available online), then what really happens depends on the receiver...Hlaalu wrote:Thanks. Well "all notes off" would be pretty close I'd say. Would this command kill any hung note?

Re: "Panic" function CC number?
"Panic" is just a button that triggers some piece of software code on the synth, supposed to resolve a ... "panic" situation, but what that code actually does is not defined as a standard, every synth/manufacturer can decide what to do (on the internal sound engine and/or with regards to external MIDI) when a Panic action is triggered.Hlaalu wrote:But then what's the difference with "panic"?
PS there is also MIDI CC#120 = All Sounds Off, similar to All Notes Off but more "radical" as it also resets envelopes (consider that when MIDI was born there were mainly analog synths around)
(these are the MIDI 1.0 Standard official definitions)

Re: "Panic" function CC number?
Thanks. I think I'll try out CC 123 and 120, to see whether either of those will work accordingly to the MIDI standard on the NS3.
EDIT: alternatively, what could be a good workaround to program a MIDI "shout your mouth" message on the NS3? CC#7 to 0 maybe?

Well that could be a workaround, but of course it would just "mute" it, not resolve any stuck note.Hlaalu wrote:Thanks. I think I'll try out CC 123 and 120, to see whether either of those will work accordingly to the MIDI standard on the NS3.

You're right, but at least it would give me time to try figure out how to actually fix stuck notes while at least keeping the system quiet to not annoy people. A half-workaround maybe.maxpiano wrote: Well that could be a workaround, but of course it would just "mute" it, not resolve any stuck note.

Re: "Panic" function CC number?
If you are so concerned about that risk maybe a HW solution like a Stereo A/B switch (or volume pedal) would be possibly faster and even more "radical"Hlaalu wrote:You're right, but at least it would give me time to try figure out how to actually fix stuck notes while at least keeping the system quiet to not annoy people.
