Re: NORD STAGE 3 EX or wait for the next one...
I guess market value: I too would wait if I were in their shoes. Also, memory. The Stage 3 offers 480 MB for the Sample Library: depending on your use, they might prove to be way too little (I, for one, rely on Mellotron samples a lot, which are pretty heavy by Nord's standards). Even the Electro 6 has a bit more space with its 512 MB. I understand that Nord's business model's based around incremental upgrades, but such tiny amounts of memory feel out of time: I mean, the Kronos already shipped with a 30 GB SSD back in 2011, which became 60 GB the following year, with the possibility to install a second drive. Clavia works much harder on compression and efficiency, but I feel that 4 GB for the Piano Library and an equal amount for the Sample Library should be the bare minimum for a flagship keyboard in 2021 (especially if you want it to be future-proof).CountFosco wrote:What does the S3ex or S4 do that you feel is missing from the S3?abepiano wrote:I am buying the NORD STAGE 3 but i don't want the investment and I rather wait if the nord stage 3 ex or nord stage 4 is coming out. Re: NORD STAGE 3 EX or wait for the next one...
Hello, and welcome to the Forum! The two options I would consider would be to either wait for the Stage 3 EX and continue using your current keyboard(s), or look for a used Stage 3 which will not drop significantly in value (depending on what you spend) when the Stage 3 EX is released. It is very possible that once the Stage 3 EX is released, you'll look at all that you are able to do with your Stage 3 and decide that the move to a Stage 3 EX is not needed or worth the difference. What we don't know is whether Nord will break tradition and jump straight to a Nord Stage 4, which reinforces the thought of waiting, or buying used. Good luck to you!abepiano wrote:I am buying the NORD STAGE 3 but i don't want the investment and I rather wait if the nord stage 3 ex or nord stage 4 is coming out. PLEASE HELP SOMEBODY

Re: NORD STAGE 3 EX or wait for the next one...
Nord always keeps any secrets for future product releases extremely well guarded.
Even if Nord were planning to announce a major new keyboard product just 1 day from now, you will not hear about it ahead of time here.
I have been a participant on this forum for 8 years, and I cannot remember one case where a major new keyboard hardware announcement was leaked here ahead of time.

Re: NORD STAGE 3 EX or wait for the next one...
Great insights here and one more long-time Nord user, as well as long-time forum member. I have had tangential connections with Nord over the years, having written several product reviews and also interacting with them at NAMM shows and it's true - there are no leaks of information ahead of time and no one but Nord knows about if/when a NS3 EX or NS4 will hit the market. Even if they announced it tomorrow, it would probably still be at least 6 months before available.
I wouldn't hold off awaiting an unknown announcement, if you need a new keyboard and the NS3 meets your needs. I was a NS2 user for a long time and even had a couple of NS2 EX that I used until well after the NS3 was available. What I saw in the first 1+ year of the NS3 being out is that a number of bugs and features were still being worked out and it made less sense for me to upgrade until the platform was stable. I waited something like 2 years before I got a NS3 and was perfectly happy with the NS2 in the meantime. I still have one of my NS2 and wouldn't hesitate to use it, even though I also have two NS3 Compact units that I like very much.
If and when there is a successor announced, I would likely wait a little while before getting it. Not to mention the time involved with learning a new instrument and creating sounds on it. That was non-trivial when I moved from NS2 to NS3.
In terms of investment, Nords hold their value VERY well, so I wouldn't worry to much about that.
