The essential reasons for me to buy an NE5 HP73 were the more realistic piano and organ sounds and not least the noticeable lighter weight for an HP-keybed!
So far me and my back are very happy with this decision but there is serious drawback compared with my Motif: the limited split/layer possibilities, especially that it is impossible to combine different synth samples.
Sadly some of our best songs with complexe multilayers/multisplits I could not play acceptable on the Electro (the alternative Nord stage was to expensive for me)
But no i found a satisfying way for me to handle this deficit:
For these special songs I built samples with Cubase and the Nord sample editor from performances of my Motif XS (Multilayers/Multisplits) and load them on my NE5.
Certainly a time consuming procedure but for me it works well and I am very content with the result.
So that I can play these Mutilayer/Multisplit-Songs without notable reduction in quality - carrying only my 11kg light red keyboard to the gigs and mostly let the good old but 18 kg heavy Motif at home.
Here an example:
Africa Splitsound for the Intro (Brass-Sound + Vibes-layer)
The special adjustments I use for the sample:
reverb stage:4 - compressor:4 - equalizer (Bass +3/Midfreq 990/Mid Gain 4/Treble-4) - dynamics 1
For NE5-owners here the program
Notice: Excuse my low experience with sampling (for example I can’t handle loops till now)
