New Nord User with Sound Question

Post by micahlee1024 »

I am trying to find a similar piano or synth sample for the nord piano 2. I will post a link to the song on youtube....it's a song for our church worship team. If anyone can help me with a similar sound that would be awesome.

Unless it was removed manually, "SynthPad2" will be on your machine. It should do the trick, and just dial in tremolo get that "pulse". Or better yet, use the tap-tempo delay with your drummer to get it perfect every time. Its sounds like that main riff is in the left hand, so if you want to do some chords then split the keyboard and put a piano up top

For anyone with a Stage 2, there's a good way to achieve a more 'staccato' effect rather than a pulsing one, using the LFO:

- Start with a decent synth sound of your choice and make sure it has no decay/infinite sustain (i.e. like an organ rather than a guitar).
- Set MOD ENV Attack, Decay, Release all to zero
- Choose a low pass filter (LPF 12 or 24) and turn the Freq knob to zero
- Turn on KB Track
- Set the FREQ MOD 1 (LFO) in the Filter section all the way up to 10
- Set the FREQ MOD 2 clockwise towards MOD ENV about half way.
- In the LFO section, choose a SQUARE or REVERSE SAW and set the RATE to your liking. Turn on MST CLK to syn the rate to your master clock - then you can use tap-tempo in the same way Nick suggests.

I'll post an example program if anyone is interested (I realise the original question was for the Nord Piano not the Stage!)

Sounds like the original is actually two sounds layered - a straight sawtooth sound with the VCF-enveloped pulse on top, so it might be tricky to get more than a rough approximation from a single synth source.

@RedLeo - yeah I agree. Just mentioned the LFO in principle as an alternative to Nick's approach.

You can approximate it if you reduce the amount of effect the LFO has (Freq Mod 1) and adjust the Frequency cutoff, then you can get a balance between the pulsing and the sustained part. For anyone interested, here's an example with a simple Detuned SAW in a single slot where i'm tweaking the LFO and the Frequency. Layering in another synth in Slot B would make it pretty nice. Now, if I had a NLA1... :D

Haha yes, using the synth section on the Nord Piano 2 compared to the Stage 2 is like using a crayon instead of photoshop!
