Using samples
Hi
I am new to Nord keyboards, having just bought a Nord Wave and Nord Electro 4D, and i'm very happy with them.
Using the Wave, I've read through the manual but, while I am becoming familiar with the programs and editing them, I cannot seem to understand how to use the onboard samples. I found that if I adjust the knob below the sample window, the sound briefly shows int he display but this is quickly replaced by the currently selected program sound again. I can get the sample to sound if I press the SampleInit button but the previously selected program still plays alongside the sample.
Can anyone tell me what I'm not doing properly here, please?
Many thanks
Ash

Re: Using samples
I think you should study the Nord Wave manual (all of it) and understand the role of Samples in its synthesis chain and how they are managed.

I've done that, so I guess I'll just have to do it over again. I was just hoping that someone would help me to understand where I'm going wrong.

Re: Using samples
A Sample is not equivalent to a Program, since a sample is just a waveform of one of the Oscillators, which are part of a Program (together with all the other settings, for the two A/B slots).
Once you understand this principle the rest is a consequence.

Re: Using samples
So the samples are used by the Wave as the basis for an overall program and are not intended to be used by themselves? I think I'm beginning to understand!

Re: Using samples
Yes, the samples are essentially another oscillator waveform, like maxpiano explained. You need to adjust the rest of the synth parameters.

Re: Using samples
Of course, once you have chosen your sample as a wave form and like it the way it sounds, no need to adjust it via the synth section.....A good thing I always do on my Stage 2 is to "Inaitiate" the synth section anytime I load a sample so, I know that I get the "raw" sound of the sample and that it's easier to compare them that way first, before adjusting them....
I don't own a Nord Wave but I think you should have that kind of "Init" with the Shift switch...
