E3 - eq knobs snap to current value - all or one?

Postby Tracii » 06 Mar 2018, 13:54

Hello,

the previous owner of my Nord Electro 3 61 stored a rather nice piano sound including EQ. I have kept it because it's bright and punchy, but it could use a little less brilliance. Problem is that I can't seem to replicate his EQ settings. Could it be that as soon as I turn one EQ knob, all EQ parameters snap to their knob's current value and not just the one I'm turning?

Hi, actually not, only the parameter associated to that knob should change. Maybe the original patch is using also some Drive?

That's what I was thinking (and hoping), but that would mean:
- I select the program. The EQ settings are loaded and they are nowhere near the physical value of the knobs.
- I turn the treble knob. The treble EQ setting snaps to the knob's current value. The bass, freq and gain values stay as they are.
- As soon as I have turned the treble knob to the value that the program came with, the sound should be identical again to the stored program. And I can't seem to find that spot - and given that there's only so much range in those little knobs, I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I think you are not doing anything wrong, maybe you think you don't find that same setting but actually you do.

Suggestion: copy the program you want to edit into a nearby location or better the Live buffer, so that you can quickly do A/B comparison between the original and your edits

That's a good idea! I'll see whether I can tie this together. Thanks a lot!

Alright, got it! :D The quick A/B-ing suggested made a huge difference in detecting the difference.

The treble EQ was maxed out, btw - no wonder why it sounded so bright. And no wonder I didn't find its setting quickly - I'm not used to living on the edge. ;)
