NS3 Wheel Morphing issue

Post by dankeys »

I’ve noticed an issue on programs that use the mod wheel to Morph volume
levels of either the Piano, Organ or Synth engines. The morphed volume levels
seem to bounce erratically. I’ve noticed it both when the wheel is rolled
forward, and also in original position, with preloaded factory programs and also programs I’ve created.

I’ve made sure after touch is not enabled - in any case, light or heavy playing both trigger the issue.

When I disable the wheel morph and instead, use a the control pedal (yamaha
FC7) to morph the same parameters - the issue does not occur.

I’ve reset to factory defaults using the latest factory restore download (1.32) and the issue is still
present.
I do not have an earlier version of a factory restore file so cannot confirm
if this issue is related to the current os.

I can not restore my backup from before I upgrade the OS as both Nord Sound Manager 7.12 and 6.xx give me (different) error messages.

I’d be grateful for any ideas you might have.
Cheers
Dan.

We had a lot a reports for issue with the mod wheel, mostly on the compact version.
I do not think it is a software issue, you should contact Clavia for this.

Some users opened their keyboard to validate that the mod wheel connector was properly connect. Some succeeded but some had the keyboard repaired/replaced.

Best regards to you

Thanks DanielD71, appreciate the response.
I neglected to mention it is indeed a Stage 3 compact.

See previous threads but suffice it to say every NS3C will have this issue, as the modwheel connector was placed too close to the keybed--a design flaw. Clavia's official fix for this is for you to have it permanently soldered by an authorized service center. In the meantime check out my thread here for a quick fix without opening the case:

I used a 2cm strip of an expired credit card I cut up.

Same here, I have a Compact with a defective Wheel. (Morphing doesn't work properly, so for example: if I want to morph volume from the piano section from absolute min to absolute max, it mostly only adjusts the volume only a few led-lights or not a all throught the wheel itself). I contacted my dealer and my Nord has to be sent to Nord for a fix, I'm afraid. I wil do this asap, and if any of you have questions on how it went afterwards, let me know. Wish me luck ;-)

Hi TBone77,

I have exactly the same MW issue as you have. On friday I´ll know if I send my NS2C to the dealer or if I can fix it by myself.
Cheers.

Hi all,
I had my NS3 Compact repaired. It's been gone for 2,5 weeks, and I missed it ;-) My dealer sent me a document for mailing it to the repairer (150 km's away). I tucked it in the box, which I had kept for this kind of situations, and used 3 miles of ducktape ;-) The package was insured by the dealer, al costs were not mine. It's a bit odd to send this expensive unit away at the postal office...
It's working fine now! If I notice anything special, I let it know.

Timo

Edit 13-03-2019: well, when I got my Compact back, the problem was solved and the wheel did what it had to do. But now, it's broken AGAIN. My dealer will discuss with nord what to do, I can't trust my board this way :wtf: :-(
