Hello chaps,
The sax player from one of the 60s soul/funk/boogaloo bands I used to play in has recently returned home from his two year work transfer, so we're itching to get back together and play some gigs.
I've picked out a pretty sweet tune called 'The Hen', so I'd like to call upon the Nord User Forum regulars to provide a decent Hammond sound that captures the vintage, crunchiness of the original...without my Electro 3 making that harsh, shrill digital sound.
Here's the tune:
I joined both parts together to a single MP3, here:
As always, many thanks for your help chaps!
Cheers!
James

My mind says Kawai, but my heart says Nord.

Wow, Cool tune. Hopefully you'll get a lot of feedback on this.
My suggestion (please take with a grain of salt) would be to determine your drawbar setting as that will effect the overdrive of the Nord.
I have two things that I do to try to get what sounds right to me.
1.) i usually set the overdrive between 2 3/4 and 3 depending----------------.
2.Engage the Eq with the bass set close to flat , maybe rolled off -1 or -2 db .
The mid sweep I like to turn all the way back to approximately 800 Hz or more if possible.
Mid gain I set around +1 to +3. This makes the knob pointer point completely in the opposite direction of the sweep.
Treble I set to taste, usually, +1 to +3.
I wouldnt use a lot of Eq as that would throw off drawbar settings perhaps.
Having said that, it sounds to me like the Eq is inline before the Overdrive so you can focus the over drive on a particular range of the audio spectrum.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Yeah, it's a killer tune, huh?
Whether or not we'll be able to nail it quite as well remains to be seen, but fingers crossed I'll be able to work-out a faithful organ drawbar setting that isn't too harsh on the ears.
Cheers,
James

Well, that's a nice assignment for today. I started with a 876543211 triangle and I set 6th a bit higher, say 4, breaking the trianbgle pattern. Of course leslie at full speed, then added Chorus (I think in the chorus of the song, the player turns up the amount of chorus) and about 4 distortion. Oh, and of course a reverb, I think "stage" does best, 2-3. Cerainly not nailing it, but on the right way I think. What I still miss is the out of tune-ness, maybe add some vibrato from the effect unit for that.

Thank you for the suggestions skip!
I'll have to give those drawbar settings a try later.
Cheers,
James
